Star Wars: Ahsoka has already released six episodes on Disney+, and the new series features live-action versions of fan-favorite animated characters from Clone Wars and Rebels. Star Wars' social media accounts also gave us a closer look at the show's costumes and props, and recently, they shared an in-depth look at Ahsoka Tano's ship known as the T-6 Jedi Shuttle, which originally appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
In the new behind-the-scenes video, Industrial Light & Magic model maker John Goodson explains why it was a "unique challenge" to bring Ahsoka's ship to life, and shares details about it.
The physical creation of Ahsoka's ship brought the unique mode of transportation first created for the Jedi of the prequels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars back to the screen with an well-crafted and intricately mechanized model.
“It was a slightly different version, but it was the same design,” Goodson told StarWars.com. “It was the same big semi-circular wing with a cockpit and three engines in the back.” But to build it as a functional, camera-mountable model? “It's the most mechanically complex thing I've seen in a long time,” he says. “This ship is different from anything else that we've worked with.”
For the new Ahsoka series, it took Goodson four months working full-time in his Marin County garage to sculpt, cast, and fabricate Ahsoka's ship for the era of the New Republic with the help from machinist Dan Patrascu who worked on the mechanical innards.
