Star Wars: Ahsoka will make history with its release time on Disney+. Aside from seeing Ahsoka Tano’s first live-action series for the first time after being part of the Star Wars canon for 15 years, it will also feature a massive change with its premiere time.

Ahsoka is originally set to release its two-episode premiere on Wednesday, August 23. However, before that much-awaited day came, Disney+ announced the new release date and time for the series, which surprised many.

In an unprecedented move, the streamer revealed that Ahsoka would premiere earlier than expected on Tuesday, August 22. It will also be released at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET instead—six hours earlier than the usual 12 AM PT/3 AM ET drops.

Major Star Wars and Marvel TV series on the service usually premiere on Wednesdays or Fridays, in some cases, at 12 AM PT/3 AM ET. So, by the looks of it, Disney+ is making a major change for Ahsoka, marking the earliest release times for any Star Wars show on its list. And it won’t only start with the premiere episode, as the rest of the series’ eight episodes will be released at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET every Tuesday.

Why did Disney+ change Ahsoka’s release time?

Though Disney+ has not explained why it changed Ahsoka’s release time, it seems to follow television’s primetime schedule. It is what Warner Bros. and HBO have been doing for years. It’s also the same practice Max (formerly HBO Max) has been following, like when it released The Last of Us and House of the Dragon.

However, streaming services have changed the viewers’ viewing times by releasing new episodes at 12 AM PT/3 AM ET. But Disney+ is seemingly looking to do it again.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Ahsoka’s New Release Time

The new release time of Ahsoka surely has advantages for fans who want to see the series earlier than usual. They no longer have to wait until the wee hours of the morning to watch the new episodes and stay up late.

Instead, they can gather around the TV with their friends and families before they sleep and have something to discuss the next day. The new release time is also much more accessible for many.

But with advantages come disadvantages. The new release time is much more favorable for Westerners. This means that by the time international audiences see Ahsoka, others from North America have already watched it, possibly resulting in being spoiled. Anyhow, it can’t be denied that this is a welcoming change, though some fans have to make adjustments.
