When Marvel Studios dropped Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, many theorized that the film served as an origin story for Peter Parker. Two years after the movie’s release, its director, Jon Watts, confirmed that the claim was true, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie trilogy serves as a big origin story for Tom Holland’s character.

The third Spider-Man movie saw Parker teamed up with the two previous Spider-Men, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The three faced five supervillains, and when the movie ended, a classic Spider-Man was officially introduced—alone, poor, and living on his own in an apartment in New York City.

In an entry in Spider-Man: Now Way Home – The Art of the Movie, as cited by The Direct, Watts revealed that his first two MCU Spider-Man movies, Homecoming and Far From Home, were the fun chapters in Spidey’s life, while No Way Home was when Parker became the titular hero. He then described that creating these plots was their way to feature something fans hadn’t seen before in Parker’s life.

"When we were doing Homecoming, the discussions were always about how we do something you haven't seen before with Peter Parker..." he said. "That steers you down a couple different paths and leads you to doing things like having his best friend found out his identity and having his aunt find out, and then, at the end of the last movie, having the whole world find out."

How did the three Spider-Man movies become an origin story?

Watts then explained that the three Spider-Man movies came together and became a “collective origin story.” Hence, No Way Home serves as the end of the beginning for Parker. Like the previous Spider-Man films, the 2021 movie saw Parker without anyone around him, living life anonymously.

"In the end, you know, it was nice to be able to have everything coalesce into, at its essence, the simple story of Spider-Man," Watts continued. "We just really all took our time telling the first issue of Spider-Man — that origin story."

No Way Home also featured Parker sewing a new Spider-Man suit and later donned it to take a spin on the New York City skyline. As Spider-Man 4 is reportedly in the works, fans may see Parker starting a new life like a grown-up Spider-Man, reintroducing the famous Webslinger to the world.
