Netflix Korea revealed a new teaser trailer and poster for The Blue Road, confirming the project as an upcoming crime series led by Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama. The materials frame a hard-boiled investigation that moves between Seoul and Tokyo, rather than a standalone film. Netflix Korea paired the footage with a worldwide streaming date of November 20.

Han Jun-hee directs The Blue Road after the D.P. series and the film Coin Locker Girl. In the crime thriller series, a Seoul detective and a Tokyo detective are pulled into the same hunt once bodies start turning up on both sides of the Korea-Japan border. Each killing leaves a message that points the case toward the other country.

Kim Seok (Son Suk-ku) works as a detective with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Mobile Investigation Unit. Inose (Eita Nagayama) is a detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division. The two men read a crime scene in opposite ways, and a repeating case that ignores the border pulls their separate investigations onto the same trail.

The new poster from Netflix Korea places both leads in nighttime back alleys. Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama stand against walls marked with Korean and Japanese writing, and the November 20 date runs along the bottom of the image. The split layout keeps the focus on the main cast and the case that links their cities.

What is The Blue Road about?

Netflix shared a synopsis for The Blue Road. The write-up sets the murders in both capitals and explains why the two departments end up on the same trail.

International crime thriller that follows two detectives as they track a series of gruesome cross-border murders, characterized by twisted bodies and mysterious dying messages. The story begins in Tokyo, when a disfigured body is found with a blood-inked message written in Korean. Soon after, a similar case emerges in Korea, this time written in Japanese. As the pattern continues, the authorities realize they are dealing with a serial killer operating across countries, prompting a joint investigation that takes the detectives from Seoul to Tokyo and beyond.

Choi Sung-eun is also part of the cast, playing a government agent who looks into the murders from a position apart from the detectives. She previously starred in Netflix’s The Sound of Magic. The role places her on a separate track from Kim Seok and Inose.

Jung Jae-young rounds out the announced cast as a man whose identity stays unclear. He has not yet led a Netflix Korean series, though he has headlined shows such as Partners for Justice, Duel, and Assembly. His character adds another unknown to the cross-border investigation.
