Rockstar Games, the studio behind popular blockbuster videogame franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, just broke a major gaming record online when it confirmed its plans to reveal the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 early next month. Last September marked the ten-year anniversary of GTA V and GTA Online, which managed to retain a massive playerbase for the entire decade since its launch in 2013.
Since Grand Theft Auto 5 was released for PlayStation and Xbox consoles a decade ago, it has gone to become the second best-selling videogame of all time (185 million total units), trailing just behind Minecraft. Now, gamers have been craving for more information, and although the developers at Rockstar Games have been quiet about their next GTA project, rumors and leaks online have been spreading online, and recently, we finally get an official confirmation on when we can expect to get our first look at GTA 6.
GTA 6 Record-Breaking Trailer Announcement
Rockstar's announcement of the release of the first GTA 6 trailer in early December 2023 has broken the record for the most-liked gaming-related tweet/X post ever.
Earlier this week, Rockstar's co-founder Sam Houser took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the studio, confirming that the developer will "release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto" (assumedly titled GTA 6) in early December.

In just over five hours, the tweet reached over 1 million likes, breaking the record for the most likes for a tweet (and hitting it in record time). The X post broke the record set by a previous tweet from Rockstar written in reaction to the GTA 6 gameplay leaks. The September 2022 tweet reached a similar record, hitting over 1 million likes, but that post hit the mark in over 20 hours. According to popular gaming news account Okami Games, the tweet had since been viewed 75 million times.
When is the first GTA 6 trailer coming?
Rockstar will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on December 10, so there's a good chance that the developer will release the first GTA 6 trailer that day. Since Rockstar confirmed that the trailer will drop in early December, it'll likely be released before that date, December 12 being the latest. As for whether a launch date or window will be revealed, it's likely that development of GTA 6 is almost complete, so a 2024 release window wouldn't be surprising, though Rockstar hasn't confirmed this yet. We'll likely find out the answer next month.
