Among the most famous faces in the past decade as a member of the X-Men is Patrick Stewart who played the older version of Professor X/ Charles Xavier for more or less two decades already. His name still remains as he recently appeared as a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, the tenured actor plays coy on whether he would reprise the iconic role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
When 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney, fans were eager to see how the Marvel properties under the former would get into the Marvel Cinematic Universe like the X-Men which is one of the most anticipated teams to join the franchise. Just in time, the MCU started with the Multiverse Saga following the end of an era with the Infinity Saga and the story got bigger with the various realities around. One included Patrick Stewart's Professor X as a member of the Illuminati from Earth-838 in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and while his stint there was short, when asked whether he would reprise his iconic role again, he played coy about it speaking Etalk and teasing the possibilities:
I cannot put it to rest because it's not a fact either for or against. It is a possibility. Hugh Jackman and I looked upon Logan as being our farewell. Given that I died in that film, although I've been told I've actually died several times already. How do I do it? Yeah, know that and you could get lucky...
Having Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars could make sense and someone with his abilities could definitely up the ante being one of the most powerful telepaths to ever grace the multiverse. Given his fan-favorite status and with the MCU recently being of every fan service there could be, the possibility of Patrick Stewart's Professor X being in Avengers: Secret Wars is quite high!
Where else can Patrick Stewart return as Professor X in the MCU?
As mentioned above, Fox's Marvel properties are entering the MCU and the first to go is the Merc With a Mouth in Deadpool 3 where Ryan Reynolds will be bringing with him an old pal, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. It seems like Deadpool will not only be bringing Wolverine with him but also Patrick Stewart's Professor X. Speaking with ComicBook last February, Patrick Stewart reveals that he remains ready to reprise the role if ever he would be called up to suit up once more as Professor X in Deadpool 3, "I’ve been told to stand by. I know nothing more than that, honest.”
While there remains no confirmation whether Patrick Stewart's Professor X would return to the MCU, his previous appearance was a surprise to the fans and Marvel Studios could pull up this trick once more because what's better than a surprise appearance, right?
Deadpool 3 is slated for a July 26, 2024 theatrical release. Avengers: Secret Wars has been moved to a May 27, 2027 schedule.
