It’s a busy year for Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s manga Oshi no Ko. In addition to the ongoing second season of the anime, which features the next step in Aqua and Ruby’s story, Toei Company and Amazon Prime Video earlier announced the series’ upcoming live-action drama and movie. To give a glimpse of the fan-favorite characters brought to life, the character trailers for Ai, Ruby, Aqua, Kana, and Kane have been finally released.

Aqua Hoshino Played by Kaito Sakurai

Oshi no Ko’s character trailer for Aqua Hoshino shows the former doctor turned Ai Hoshino’s child talking about acting. The preview perfectly catches Aqua’s emotions as he calls acting a form of revenge and a means to stay in the entertainment industry. As different problems arise, he vows to protect his twin sister, Ruby Hoshino. However, as Aqua has enough and feels he has messed everything up, he aims to go home.

Ruby Hoshino Played by Nagisa Saito

An excited Ruby sees herself as a star and a big fan of Ai. At one point, she reveals she can’t help but admire her new mother as she tries to fulfill her dream by reforming her idol group with the support of her friends. Determined to be an idol herself, Ruby swears to be on the stage someday. But aside from Ai, she also can’t help but admire herself for being too cute.

Kana Arima Played by Nanoka Hara

Kana Arima’s trailer features the character’s quirky attitude as she shows her different sides while working with Ruby. As a prodigious child actress, she’s about to show what she got as part of the revived idol group B-Komachi. She also promises to be a star again after her popularity waned over the years. As she starts to doubt herself, seeing Aqua telling her she’s cute makes her jaw drop.

Akane Kurokawa Played by Mizuki Kayashima

Akane Kurokawa shows her incredible chemistry with Aqua as they take a photo together. But despite being a successful actress, she’s still evidently sad, wanting to do her best to help herself grow. She also vows to be always on Aqua’s side as she hopes to turn their relationship from reel to real.

Mem-Cho Played by Ano

As a famous YouTuber, Mem-Cho is ready to take her popularity to the next level in Oshi no Ko. Despite her fame as a social media personality, she admits that she originally wanted to be an idol. She knows it is not something that happens, but she finally has the chance to do so as she becomes a member of the revived B-Komachi.

What is Oshi no Ko is about?

Oshi no Ko follows the story of obstetrician-gynecologist Gorou Amamiya, who is a big fan of rising star Ai Hoshino. Little does he know that he will meet Ai in person when she appears at his clinic to give birth to her child. Gorou takes it upon himself to safely and secretly deliver Ai’s child so that she can make a scandal-free return, only to be killed by the star’s stalker. Gorou is eventually reincarnated as Ai’s child, Aqua. As he manages to retain the memories of life past, Aqua vows to protect his mother’s legacy with his twin sister, Ruby, who’s also a reincarnation of Gorou’s former patient and Ai’s fan, Sarina Tendoji.

You can read the Oshi no Ko synopsis below:

When pregnant young starlet Ai Hoshino appears at Dr. Gorou Amemiya’s clinic, he takes it upon himself to safely (and secretly) deliver her child so Ai can make a scandal-free return to the stage. But on the eve of her delivery, Gorou is slain at the hands of Ai’s deluded stalker — and is subsequently reborn as Ai’s child, Aquamarine Hoshino! The glitz and glamor of showbiz hide the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry. Can he help his new mother rise to the top of the charts?

The live-action movie and series are based on the manga of the same title, written by Akasaka and illustrated by Yokoyari. First serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump in April 2020, it has collected 15 tankobon volumes and adapted into anime by Doga Kobo. Its first season was released in April 2023, while the second season is now ongoing after premiering in July 2024.

Smith directs the movie, while director and former actress Hana Matsumoto co-directs the series with him, with scripts by Ayako Kitagawa. The eight-episode live-action drama is set to stream exclusively in Japan on Amazon Prime Video on November 28, 2024. The film, alternatively, is scheduled for release in Japanese theaters on December 20, 2024.
