Netflix’s One Piece became an instant hit among both anime and non-anime fans so much so that the platform decided to renew it for another season just two weeks after its release. Even though this is some terrific news for the viewers, what’s even more amazing is that the producers of the live-action adaptation recently shared that the show might just release 12 seasons. Considering the amount of content that is within the manga, we won’t be surprised if it goes beyond the designated 12 seasons as well.

One Piece was created by Eiichiro Oda, and its story follows the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy while he embarks on a journey to become the King of the Pirates by acquiring a valuable treasure. His Straw Hat crew helps him achieve this goal, and together, they face plenty of challenges. The manga was released back in 1997 and is still going on, with 1,091 chapters released as of right now. If One Piece Season 1 features eight episodes of one hour each, covering almost 95 chapters of the manga, then Season 2 might cover the next 95 chapters.

This means that the story will finish the last part of the manga’s first story arc, the East Blue Saga. Once that ends, the story will kick off the Arabasta Saga, where Luffy and his crew will journey into the Grand Line. If Netflix’s One Piece can keep up this success, then the show might actually consist of multiple seasons.

How many seasons will Netflix’s One Piece have?

During an interview with Deadline, Tomorrow Studios’ Becky Clements and Marty Adelstein claimed that they were excited about their plans regarding the One Piece live-action adaptation. When asked about the series possibly getting more seasons after Season 2, Adelstein said, "We have hopes for 12 seasons, there's so much material."

Clements further added that they were currently up for at least six seasons once given the green signal. She said, "We're over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga... We have plans with Matt Owens for how we would break multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the chapters of the manga. It really could go on and on and on." It would be amazing if the One Piece live-action adaptation actually released 12 seasons!

12 seasons does sound like an extremely ambitious plan for a show that’s just launched and is expensive to produce. Although the series has climbed the popularity scale to the top in no time, the series will need a highly impressive success rate to get to its desired number of seasons. So far, it's safe to say that it's on the right track!

Netflix’s One Piece is currently available to stream on Netflix.
