One Piece: Egghead Arc finally begins, and this new side of the story of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates is now streaming on Netflix. The recent One Piece Episode 1090, titled A New Island! Future Island Egghead, featured the return of Jewelry Bonney after she and her crew, The Bonney Pirates, was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates. But as one scene featured Bonney shirtless on an island, it quickly caused controversy, and the new episode’s key animator, KDA, promptly addressed the stir.

The One Piece Episode 1090 scene in question saw Bonney drying her shirt after being saved from the sea with Luffy, Chopper, and Jinbei. The next scene focused on the still-shirtless Bonney, whose hair covered only her chest. Later, she was seen fixing her clothes and wearing her blouse.

This quickly caused a stir on social media for sexualizing Bonney, with some pointing out that she was only 12 years old and her devil fruit had just aged her up. Hence, they couldn’t help but complain about the people lusting for the underage pirate. X (formerly Twitter) user @OPBR_IN even called those scenes “insane,” adding he didn’t know if he would blame the manga creator, Eiichiro Oda, or its animation studio, Toei Animation, for it.

So, to address the claims, KDA shared the shirtless image of Bonney from One Piece Episode 1090 on X, hoping viewers enjoyed her scenes and addressed the “sexualizing” controversy. However, instead of apologizing for Bonney’s scenes, he apologized for drawing Jinbei shirtless.

“I’m sorry for drawing Jinbei shirtless,” he wrote.

Despite the complaints, many even admired KDA’s work, saying he did an excellent job and they liked Bonney’s scenes. “You brought Christmas early for some Bonney fans,” one fan responded. He even shared a clip of Donquixote Doflamingo laughing, saying it was his reaction when he read the comments and replies about Bonney.
