The NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a anime has released a new trailer and visual for its second cour, which is scheduled to premiere in July 2024. It was also revealed that LiSA is performing the sci-fi anime's new opening song, Black Box. The trailer shows action-packed scenes with the YoRHa android models 2B and 9S using their swords to take down a group of machines. We also get a glimpse of a mysterious female character who could be one of the anime's main antagonists.

The second cour of NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a will be directed by Ryoji Masuyama (Blend S, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls assistant director). Ryoji Masuyama and Yoko Taro (NieR: Automata creator) are in charge of the series composition while Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) is the character designer and chief animation director. Shun Tachibana is the action director and prop designer, and MONACA (Assassin's Pride is the music composer. A-1 Pictures is producing the animation.

What is NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a about?
NieR Automata Ver1.1a is based on the 2017 open world action-RPG developed by PlatinumGames and published by SquareEnix. The sci-fi story in a post-apocalyptic Earth abandoned by humanity in the year 11945, where androids and alien-manufactured machines battle. The first cour of the anime premiered in January 2023 but concluded after the Winter 2023 anime season as a result of multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last four episodes of the first cour were released altogether on July 23.
The NieR Automata franchise also inspired other media such as novels, stage plays, and manga. The anime also features Lily, a character from the YoRHa prequel stage play and its manga adaptation. Crunchyroll and Bilibili are streaming the NieR Automata anime overseas, and Crunchyroll provided a plot description for the series:
The distant future, 5012. The sudden aerial invasion of Earth byand their creations led mankind to the brink of extinction. The surviving number of humans who took refuge on the moon to organize a counterattack using soldiers to recapture Earth. However, the war reaches a stalemate as the continue to multiply infinitely. In turn, humanity deploys a new unit of android soldiers as an ultimate weapon: YoRHa. Newly dispatched to Earth 2B joins 9S, the analyst currently stationed there, where amid their mission, they encounter a myriad of mysterious phenomena... This is the story of these lifeless and their endless fight for the sake of mankind.
