Suzy is back in the new Netflix K-drama Doona! A few days before the new series drops, the Nation’s First Love reveals her emotional connection with her character, who also happens to be a former K-pop idol.

After the success of Anna in 2022, Suzy returns to the small screen in this new K-drama series based on Min Songa’s webtoon, The Girl Downstairs. Netflix is now hyping up Doona!’s nearing release with several promotions here and there, dropping a sneak peek, trailer, and preview stills. Now, the 29-year-old graces the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine and talks about her character.

Sure, Suzy and her titular character, Doona, come from the K-pop industry, but the actress-model reveals their experiences differ. As someone who started in the business as a group member of Miss A, she has “a deep understanding” of her role’s journey, bringing her back to her “early idol days.”

But compared to her character, Suzy admits that she couldn’t express her pain like Doona when she was in her early 20s. “My emotions were bottled up, unlike Doona, who allows herself to experience her emotions fully, even when they're painful,” she said via AllKpop.

She even continues that Doona isn’t afraid of unveiling her naughty side, openly speaking “harsh words” without care. With that, Suzy understands that the viewers may misunderstand her character at first, but Doona! will eventually develop into making her role loved by many.
