As the new year begins, the release of the much-awaited Netflix live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is inching closer. To excite fans of what’s to come, the streamer has dropped a new preview, showing Aang, Katara, and Sokka in action. By the looks of it, these three are ready to save the world.

Though Netflix only drops one still for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender, it’s enough to hype up fans to see this trio on the small screen. It features Aang (Gordon Cormier) in the center, seemingly wielding his power as he gets into the position to fight. Beside him is Sokka (Ian Ousley), holding his boomerang and ready to throw it at the unseen enemies, while his sister, Katara (Kiawentiio Tarbell), also prepares for a big battle.

For starters, Aang, Sokka, and Katara are part of the Avatar Gaang or Team Avatar, the main hero group of the Avatar Realms. It was originally composed of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Appa until Momo, Toph, Zuko, and Suki later joined. Together, they’re responsible for saving the kingdoms from the Hundred-Year War.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender about?

Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the story of Aang, the young Avatar, who must learn to master the four elements, Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, to restore the world’s balance amid the threats of the Fire Nation. As he does this, he gets the help of the Water tribe siblings, Sokka and Katara, and numerous other characters.

You can read the synopsis below:

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the Firebenders toward conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
