To celebrate the winter solstice, Netflix has dropped new stills for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aside from the already-introduced characters fans have seen in the previous promotional materials, the streamer has also released first looks at several new characters, like June, The Mechanist, Jet, and more.

The new Avatar: The Last Airbender still features Kanna, aka Gran Gran (Casey Camp-Horinek). She’s Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara’s (Kiawentiio Tarbell) grandmother, who still vividly remembers how the world was before the First Nation attacked. Next is Suki (Maria Zhang) and her mother, Mayor Yukari (Tamlyn Tomita). The two stand side-by-side as they observe their surroundings.

The preview also introduces The Mechanist (Danny Pudi), the mad scientist and serial inventor from the Earth Kingdom. The Fire Nation forced him to work to create dangerous inventions, like battle tanks and war balloons. Next is Jet (Sebastian Amoruso), the group leader who fights against the Fire Nation after the latter kills his parents.

It also shows June (Arden Cho), a shirshu rider and a skillful bounty hunter. With her great talents, Prince Zuko personally hires her to find and capture Aang (Gordon Cormier). Speaking of Aang, Netflix gives a new glimpse of the Air Nomad meditating while sitting on a rock, and the Forest spirit Hei Bai can be seen in the background.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender about?

A live-action adaptation of the classic Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, follows the story of Aang, the young Avatar, who must master the four elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air to restore the balance on earth amid the threat of the Fire Nation. As he does this, he will work with the Water tribe siblings, Katara and Sokka, and other characters who will help him along the way.

You can read the synopsis below:

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the Firebenders toward conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
