In today's age, mental health is one of the biggest advocacies over the recent years. Had this been a time when medieval thinking was still superior, the issue would just be brushed off easily as something dismissible. In a series where the past and the present collides as the show is set during the Regency-era in London and it is currently one of the fan-favorites on Netflix, the streaming platform is now under fire for not doing anything when actress Ruby Barky had psychotic breaks while Bridgerton was filming.

The Netflix series has been a hit since its release in 2019 and the show was easily received well by the audience that a second season immediately happened. Bridgerton features Ruby Barker as Marina who later became Lady Crane. Marina is a Featherington cousin who came from the rural gentry family, and she is married to Sir Philip Crane, a baronet. The actress, however, had a bomb for Netflix and Shondaland as she revealed in an interview on Oxford University’s LOAF Podcast (via The Daily Beast) the no one from the two companies cared enough for their mental health. Barker reveals:

Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland, since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show, have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask me if I’m okay or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support.

Barker reveals in the same interview that these all happened when Bridgerton was filming and that exact same time, her mental health started to deteriorate and her character quite resonated with her that she was affected by her nature of being isolated. Barker added:

During filming, I was deteriorating. It was a really tormenting place for me to be because my character was very alienated, very ostracized, on her own under these horrible circumstances. When I went into hospital a week after shooting ‘Bridgerton’ Season 1, it was really covered up and kept on the down-low because the show was going to be coming out. In the run-up to the show coming out, I was just coming out from hospital, my Instagram following was going up, I had all these engagements to do… My life was changing drastically overnight and yet there was still no support and there still hasn’t been any support all that time. So I was trying really, really hard to act like it was ok and that I could work and that it wasn’t a problem.

Will there be Bridgerton Season 3?

Since Bridgerton has been a top series on Netflix, getting a third season is not impossible for the show and more than that, the series is also bound to get a fourth season as well. The announcement was made through the official social media channels of the series last April 13, 2021. See the announcement above.

Bridgerton Season 3 was supposed to release before 2023 ends but due to the various delays along the way and with a current SAG-AFTRA strike ongoing, the release date of the series cannot reach its original release window. With the current track of the strike and how various highly anticipated shows and movies are affected, the earliest possible release of Bridgerton Season 3 could be in early 2024.
