Netflix’s One Piece has been building incredible hype worldwide over its upcoming release. Though several teasers have been unveiled for the new series, the streaming giant has recently dropped a Japanese-dubbed trailer featuring most of the anime’s original cast members. To celebrate this new update, manga creator Eiichiro Oda has released a letter to address the live-action adaptation’s nearing release.
For starters, One Piece is originally a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Oda. Its serialization started in 1997 and now has 1,090 chapters, compiled into 106 Tankobon volumes as of July 2023. It was also adapted into anime, which now has 1,073 episodes. With several more adaptations, Oda’s brainchild has become a huge media franchise. And now, a live-action adaptation is about to come, produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix.
The Japanese-dubbed trailer isn’t something new, as it is the same as the official teaser released in July. It starts with the execution of the Great King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, followed by the introduction of the main characters, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Zanji, as they head to the Grand Line. And from there, a major turn of events is revealed.
