After giving a glimpse of the hardships Song Joong-ki will be going through in preview stills, Netflix now provides a good look at Song Hye-kyo’s ex-husband and Choi Sung-eun’s rapport in My Name is Loh Kiwan. The streamer has dropped the official trailer for the upcoming Korean movie, showing the two lead stars’ opposing personalities. As Joong-ki works hard to survive, Sung-eun has lost her will to live.

You can see the preview below:

The My Name is Loh Kiwan trailer begins with Joong-ki introducing himself as Loh Ki-wan, a North Korean defector who comes to Belgium to be a refugee. As he arrives, he promises to endure and overcome whatever comes his way in this foreign land. But as he goes through the refugee screening, everything doesn’t come easy, and he even ends up being robbed by Sung-Eun.

Sung-eun steals all the money he has. So, when he sees her at the police station, he reveals he earns the money she steals by selling her mother’s corpse. This changes how Sung-eun sees Joong-ki, realizing they share the same experience after losing her mother, too, resulting in the start of a good friendship.

Later, Sung-eun’s father tells Joong-ki that his daughter is “unstable” and needs someone “stable” by her side. From there, an intense turn of events begins, as Sung-eun tells the refugee office that if they deport Joong-ki, they’ll be sending him to his death.

Netflix has also released a new visual for My Name is Loh Kiwan. The poster features Joong-ki and Sung-eun looking in different directions. “Unfamiliar land. Daunting Life. Do we deserve happiness?” the text reads.

What is My Name is Loh Kiwan about?

Written and directed by Kim Hee-jin, My Name is Loh Kiwan is based on the novel I Met Loh Kiwan by Cho Hae-jin. It tells the story of the North Korean defector Loh Ki-wan as he tries his luck in Belgium to fulfill his mother’s dying wish to find a place where he can own his name and live on his own terms. But as he tries to seek refugee status, he goes through a lot of hardships with no means to make a living or have a house to live in. The film also features Marie, who used to represent the Belgian national shooting team. However, after being a national athlete, she now fights her own demons. As these two cross their paths, they have formed an unlikely relationship.

You can read the synopsis below:

Loh Ki-Wan is a North Korean defector. He has arrived in the unfamiliar country of Belgium from North Korea because of his mother, Ok-Hee. He wants to settle down in the country, but his only hope for him to stay is to receive refugee status from the Belgian government. He fights to get that. Loh Ki-Wan then meets Mari. She used to be a Korean, but she has now received Belgian citizenship. In her past, she was a shooter. Unlike Loh Ki-Wan, who came to Belgium to live a new life, Mari doesn't have a reason to live. They have an unpleasant first meeting but fall in love with each other.
