Song Joong-ki is back! This time, he will be a North Korean defector in the upcoming Netflix movie My Name is Loh Kiwan. After announcing the new Korean film with a teaser on January 31, the streamer has dropped new preview stills, showing the hardships Joong-ki is about to face as he tries his best to be granted refugee status in Belgium.

The new My Name is Loh Kiwan preview stills focus mostly on the two main stars: Joong-ki and Choi Sung-eun. The first still shows Sung-eun worried while she seems to be in a room with someone, followed by Joong-ki aboard the plane as he appears to make his way to Belgium. Sung-eun is once again seen with an anxious face while talking to a guy in a dark place.

The next preview reveals a bloody Joong-ki lying on the floor beside a guy with a gunshot in his abdomen. A woman holding a gun in front of several people is then revealed, while Joong-ki seems to be in a hospital with Lee Sang-hee. For the last stills, Sung-eun takes the scene again, while Joong-ki appears in the court as he works on his refugee status.

What is My Name is Loh Kiwan about?

My Name is Loh Kiwan follows the story of the North Korean defector Loh Ki-wan after going to Belgium from North Korea. Because of his mother, Ok Hee, he wants to live in this country, but he can only do so if he receives refugee status from the government. Here, he meets Marie, who used to be a Korean but has become a Belgian citizen. But compared to Ki-wan, she sees no reason to live, and from there, an unlikely romance is about to begin.

You can read the synopsis below:

Loh Ki Wan is a North Korean defector. He has arrived in the unfamiliar country of Belgium from North Korea because of his mother, Ok Hee. He wants to settle down in the country, but his only hope for him to stay is to receive refugee status from the Belgian government. He fights to get that. Loh Ki Wan then meets Marie. She used to be a Korean but has received Belgian citizenship. In the past, she was a shooter. Unlike Loh Ki Wan, who came to Belgium to live a new life, Marie doesn't have a reason to live. They have an unpleasant first meeting but fall in love with each other.

The movie is based on the novel I Met Loh Kiwan by Jo Hae-jin. It’s directed by Kim Hee-jin.
