A year after Netflix announced the live-action movie adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s hit manga series, My Hero Academia, the film finally gets a promising update from the writer Joby Harold. The film producer and screenwriter confirmed he would be a part of the movie’s staff and crew and even hinted at how huge it could be.
In an interview with Collider, Harold revealed that the My Hero Academia live-action movie is something he’s working on. In fact, he's already loving it and is excited to do it and "get it out of there."
Harold continued that the film would be a “big one.” Though he didn’t exactly mention the title of the shonen manga, it’s safe to assume that he’s talking about the Netflix movie, as only the live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia is known to be in the works.
“I can speak to the fact that it is live-action, and I think that's probably all I can speak to," he continued. Whatever the case is, Harold revealed that it’s a "big deal" in his life.

The Leaked My Hero Academia Live-Action Movie Cast
In June, IMDb accidentally leaked the alleged cast of My Hero Academia live-action movie. Though it was quickly taken down, the anime enthusiast TOKANIM shared the information on X (formerly Twitter).
Allegedly, David Mazous will play the lead role of Deku, while the Game of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead will be seen as Iida and Jace Norman as Bakugo. Graham Verchere will reportedly portray Shoto’s role, and Isabel Gameros will play Ochaco.
However, fans should take this assumption with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. Rumors have it that Netflix is looking for a new set of cast members after the series’ fans complained about why non-Japanese actors will lead the film, considering all the characters are Japanese.
What is My Hero Academia live-action movie about?
My Hero Academia follows the story of Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku, who has no quirk despite 80% of the population having it. Hence, living in a world where superpowered schools and larger-than-life heroes make him an outcast. Thankfully, upon meeting the top-ranked hero, All Might, he can fulfill his dream of studying at the prestigious U.A. Academy.
