My Hero Academia marks its 10th anniversary this month after starting its serialization in July 2014. However, just as it’s celebrating its decade of success, the manga is set to end on August 5, hinting at a romance-filled conclusion between Ochaco and Deku. Though the manga continued for a while after the release of the last chapter of the Final War Arc, series creator Kohei Horikoshi reveals it is now in the “final stretch” as the finale nears.

In an interview with Viz Media, Horikoshi reflects on the success of My Hero Academia after it released almost 40 volumes, a best-selling box set, numerous spin-offs, a seven-season anime, several movies, and more. When asked for his message to fans as the manga nears its end, the mangaka claims there aren’t many chapters left, but they are still worth sticking to the end.

“We’re in the final stretch of the manga serialization. There aren’t many chapters left, but I want to ensure that the readers feel it’s worth sticking with to the end,” he said. “Your tough but warm support keeps me going, so please continue reading!”

After releasing the final chapter of the Final War Arc, which saw Deku finally winning against All For One, Horikoshi dropped an Epilogue to show the aftermath of the all-out war. It featured a short time jump, the extent of the heroes’ injuries, the reconstruction of the ruined buildings had begun, and the Hero Society's rebuilding while the students were recovering. However, it looks like it’s setting up its first canon couple, with Ochaco finally confessing her feelings for Deku.

What to Expect from My Hero Academia Chapter 429?

My Hero Academia Chapter 429 is expected to continuously focus on Ochaco after the previous chapter reveals she still carries the pain from her fight against Toga. So, after her much-needed breakdown, Ochaco might have reflected upon her feelings for Deku and recontextualized everything that happened during the Final War. Though she has already reaffirmed her love for Deku in the manga on many occasions, she may finally make a romantic confession this time.

As the manga builds the budding romance between Deku and Ochaco, Deku may reciprocate her feelings in the upcoming chapter. Deku also has feelings for Ochaco and is even aware of her love for him. That said, for the first time in the manga, fans may see a love story begin between two Class 1-A students.

My Hero Academia only has two chapters left before it officially concludes. So, Horikoshi may use these final installments to tie up all the loose ends, including the characters’ romantic plot lines.

My Hero Academia Chapter 429 is set to be released on Sunday, July 28, while the final chapter is scheduled for Monday, August 5. The manga is available to read on Viz Media, Shonen Jump, and the Manga Plus app.
