Berlin is an upcoming Money Heist spin-off web series on Netflix that will soon debut on the digital streaming service. There is no denying that Money Heist is one of the most popular Netflix web series of all time, and Berlin has become a fan-favorite character.

The fictional character Berlin has already perished in Money Heist, but Netflix has decided to tell his backstory in this soon-to-be-released web series. Series creator Alex Pina frequently alluded to the possibility of expanding the series' cast of characters. Hence, it comes as no surprise for fans that Berlin is happening.

Money Heist is excellent in every way, including the cinematography and the instantly recognizable costumes, and avid followers of the show can expect to have this same level of quality in the imminent spin-off. The viewers were also captivated by the characters' depth, complexity, diversity, and the plot's continuous twists. As fans await for more details, here is everything we know about the upcoming Berlin series on Netflix.

Netlfix has announced that Berlin will be released on December 29, 2023. The filming of Berlin reportedly started on September 24, 2022, and as expected it's scheduled to release in December.

To recall, rumors of a Money Heist spinoff started as the final installment of the original series, which debuted on Netflix in two parts in 2021, drew closer. Alex Pina had even hinted on several occasions at the possibility of expanding upon characters introduced in the original series.

Prior to the confirmation of Berlin, Alex told Oprah Daily that he was open to a spin-off. The series creator shared:

“We do have many possibilities for some spinoffs, yes, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters. We’ve always looked for characters to have a very complex, layered design. So I think almost every character of Money Heist has a duality that we would like to see in a spinoff. We could watch any of them in other contexts.”

The studio had previously unveiled the new cast of characters who assisted Berlin in his mission long before he joined the masked robbery crew from the main Money Heist series. Actor Pedro Alonso, also known as Berlin, has already been given the go-ahead to reprise his role in imminent prequel series.

Netflix shared a clip introducing the other characters of Berlin. The list includes Joel Sanchez as Bruce, Tristan Ulloa as Damian, Julio Peña as Roi, Begoña Vargas as Cameron and Michelle Jenner as Keila.

As a prequel, there is still a chance fans would see some of the original cast reprise their roles in Berlin, including Alvaro Morte as El Profesor, Rodrigo de la Serna as Palermo and Diana Gomez as Tatiana. The American streaming giant is expected to put more names on the list in the coming months.

Alex Pina, who struck a deal with Netflix in July 2018 and renewed the deal in March 2022, will reportedly be working through his production company called Vancouver Media in making Berlin, Atresmedia is also listed among the production companies that will be behind the forthcoming series.

Berlin Plot: What is the new Money Heist spin-off about?

Numerous fans admired the character of Berlin. After the Season 2 finale, the writer killed off Berlin in an effort to protect those involved in the heist. Due to his past relationships with other gang members, he remained alive through flashbacks.

Most, if not all, fans are aware that Berlin was the mastermind of the crime. Despite the fact that his backstory was explored in Season 5, viewers know very little about the character. He has five ex-wives, one of whom is Tatiana, played by Diana Gomez. In the series, he referred to his romances as the “five times he believed in love.”

Given the fact that Berlin and The Professor are brothers, the forthcoming series would presumably examine their early years together. There is also a lack of information about their father dying or how Berlin met Palermo, his secret lover, Marsella and Bogota, which could possibly be tackled in the upcoming Money Heist spin-off.

The Berlin series may also reveal the heist that the character made in the Champs-Élyses in Paris, where he stole 434 diamonds. Fans may even learn more about his bad blood with Helmer Myopathy.

Luckily, fans heard Pedro Alonso and Alex Pina discuss the upcoming spinoff series at Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event. When asked about the imminent series, Alex said it will center on “love and heists.” He added:

“This is going to be a trip throughout the golden years of the character. When he was stealing all over Europe, madly in love.”

Avid followers of the show also got to see the first script, referred to as the 33rd version, which was seen with an episode titled “Historias de Paris” that translates to “Paris Stories.” Alex wrote the script alongside David Oliva, Esther Martinez Lobato and David Barrocal.
