Studio Bones will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an original anime, Metallic Rouge. As the series is about to hit the small screens in a month, it finally drops its official trailer, introducing the android girl named Ruji and her companion, Naomi. As these two are about to go on a different adventure in a futuristic world, they’re about to perform their top-secret work. You can check the preview below:
The trailer begins by showing an ultramodern world set in AD 2128. It then introduces Ruju, a girl from Nairn, where humans and androids both live. Naomi then appears and is later seen eating ramen while Ruju watches her. She reveals they’re tasked to carry out a government mission while their work is a top secret that no one should know.
The action begins when Ruju starts a fight with an android, followed by a tank blast. The protagonist then transforms into an android herself. The next scene shows Jean Junghardt, the son of the Nairn creator, saying they must stop the immortals and the legacy of immortality. Different robots then take the scene, followed by Noid 262, the Guardian Bureau investigator, declaring they shouldn’t harm the humans.
This confuses Ruju, as she says she doesn’t know the difference between humans and androids. “I’m doing something wrong,” she believes. “No, what are we fighting for?” From there, a fight begins while the opening theme, Rouge, by Yu-ka, plays in the background.

What is Metallic Rogue about?
Metallic Rogue is the latest battle action in collaboration between Bones and the screenwriter Yutaka Izubuchi, known for his works RahXephone and Rune Masquer. Androids will be fighting for their fate, while it will also see the birth of an “amazing tech noir.” It will feature a world where humans and androids co-exist, but not everything works smoothly between them.
Ruju and Naomi will be on a mission to Mars to murder the nine androids hostile to the government. From there, the story of Ruju’s battle is about to begin.
You can read the synopsis below:
Motonobu Hori directs Metallic Rogue, while Yutaka Izubuchi works on the series’ composition and serves as chief supervisor. Toshizo Nemoto wrote the screenplay, with Toshihiro Kawamoto handling the character designs and Taisei Iwasaki composing the music. Dazbee sings the ending theme, Scarlet.
Metallic Rogue will be released on January 11, 2024, on Fuji TV and Crunchyroll outside of Asia. With a promising trailer, and considering it’s from Studio Bones, this new anime deserves a chance.
