As a result of the latest Insomniac Games data breach, a new rumor has come up that suggests the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine might feature real-time damage and regeneration similar to Logan’s abilities in the comic books. Insomniac Games has already made its name among players following its popular Marvel’s Spider-Man titles and increased the hype after announcing another game focused on Wolverine in 2021.

Many rumors claimed that Marvel’s Wolverine might adopt the darker elements of the hero, featuring a lot more deadly combat as compared to Insomniac’s previous superhero titles. In December, Insomniac became the target of a huge ransomware attack, which led to their development data and other crucial information getting leaked to the public. Most of it was focused on Marvel’s Wolverine, its characters, voice cast, and plot. Moreover, an early alpha build footage of the game was also leaked.

If this wasn’t enough, Rhysida also leaked a fully playable PC build of Marvel’s Wolverine sometime later, which was terrible for the developers and fans who hoped to experience the game without any spoilers. Insomniac issued a statement responding to the data breach, with DMCA notices being sent out to those who have downloaded the PC build. However, it looks like more information is coming up as dataminers continue digging through the data that was leaked.

The Gamer recently reported that a video was taken from Wolverine's data files that shows what looks like Logan’s mutant healing factor in action. It also features a damaged humanoid figure that seems to be regenerating in real time. In terms of levels of injury, the video shows severe wounds, a bloody skeleton, an exposed ribcage, and a figure that has its skin entirely ripped off.

What’s the inspiration behind these rumored injuries in Marvel’s Wolverine?

The injuries mentioned above are all of those that Wolverine has survived over the years in several Marvel comics since one of his major powers is his accelerated and extraordinary healing ability that allows him to recover from nearly any deadly injury. The 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game also used this ability and received a lot of praise. In the game, Hugh Jackman suffered many bone-exposing wounds, which were healed in no time as soon as the player stopped taking damage.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also featured a somewhat similar system for Peter and Miles, although it only affected their hero outfits instead of their muscle and skin. Similar to every other detail that came from Insomniac’s ransomware attack, this Marvel’s Wolverine leak also shouldn’t be taken seriously since it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. The game is still in the middle of development, and anything featured in these leaks can be changed or removed at any time, according to the developer itself. However, it would be nice to see such a system once again show up in a game!
