There is little doubt that Echo is one of the most highly anticipated shows of the year. After all, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series serves as a spin-off to the wildly successful Hawkeye and is set to bring back Charlie Cox as Daredevil. Unfortunately, it looks like Marvel Studios and Disney+ have given the show a later release date.
Disney+ has officially confirmed the new release window for the highly-anticipated series. The alteration was made on the official Echo page, where the previously announced date of "Debuts on Disney+ November 29, 2023" was replaced with "Debuts on Disney+ January 2024" (via The Direct) This change positions Alaqua Cox's solo series as the first live-action MCU show of the new year. Marvel fans can now anticipate the arrival of Echo at the beginning of 2024, offering an exciting start to the next phase of MCU storytelling on Disney+.
The change isn't a huge surprise for Marvel fans. Due to the ongoing labor disputes affecting the entertainment industry, including the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Marvel Studios has encountered significant disruptions in its production timelines. Consequently, several highly anticipated movies and Disney+ series slated for Phase 5 of the MCU had to be postponed.
Initially, 2024 was poised to become a historic year for Marvel fans, with an unprecedented number of MCU releases and entries from Sony Pictures on the horizon. However, the strikes have necessitated these delays, leaving fans eagerly awaiting new content.
As the current release calendar stands, MCU enthusiasts can look forward to the upcoming debuts of Loki Season 2 on October 6 and the sequel The Marvels on November 10, closing out the eventful year of 2023. Beyond these releases, the MCU's future remains uncertain, pending the resolution of the ongoing labor disputes and a revised production schedule.
Echo will star Alaqua Cox as the titular Marvel heroine, Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and Vincent D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. The new series is now expected to premiere on Disney+ in January next year.
