Marvel fans continue to discuss the latest Kang Variant to be introduced in Loki Season 2 Episode 3, thanks to Jonathan Majors' enigmatic portrayal of the innocent genius who lived in the 19th century. However, Victor Timely isn't exactly a completely new concept. In addition to having his roots from the Marvel comic books, director Kasra Farahani revealed that he and Majors drew inspiration from a real-life inventor. But could this also mean that Victor's fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series would follow his real-life inspiration?
In Loki Season 2 Episode 3, viewers got to meet Victor Timely, a brilliant inventor in the 19th century who uses his conman skills to fund his experiments. Unlike He Who Remains, who introduced the concept of variants, Victor is completely unaware of the multiverse, a fact that Loki and Mobius exploit by seeking out Timely with the hope that he can help repair the Temporal Loom.

But did you know that Victor was inspired by a real-life 19th-century inventor? Director Kasra Farahani provided insights into the creation of Victor Timely for Loki Season 2. The director revealed to Screenrant that he and Jonathan Majors drew inspiration from the real-life inventor Granville Woods to shape the character of Timely. Their goal was not only to create a character rooted in inventive brilliance but also to highlight the social challenges faced by individuals in that era.
"The other thing that Jonathan and I talked about is this historical figure named Granville Woods, which is in some ways an uncanny mirror for Timely. He was a black inventor who lived basically the exact time Timely would've lived, who invented many things and was constantly having people trying to steal his patents, claim them, including Edison who tried to claim ownership of his patents twice and lost in court both times," Farahani said. "So there was that. We wanted to get that element in there because if you have a figure like this in this moment in time in history, and he would be facing those challenges."
It's unfortunate that both Victor Timely and his real-life inspiration had to deal with so much. On the other hand, it could also mean that Victor's fate will mirror that of Woods, and that would greatly influence how Loki Season 2 will end.
Will Victor Timely Fix The Multiverse in Loki Season 2?
Drawing inspiration from Granville Woods could indicate a more positive and significant role for Victor Timely in Loki Season 2 than initially expected. By basing the character on a historical figure celebrated for his inventions and his ability to overcome social obstacles, Timely may take on a more prominent role as he assists Loki and Mobius in restoring stability to the TVA. This creative choice adds depth and potential heroism to the character, allowing him to play a pivotal role in the narrative.

On the other hand, there is a huge chance things could go sideways for the TVA. After all, Timely is still a conman and a Kang Variant as well. Although he appears innocent, Loki and Mobius might need to be wary of the new character.
Loki Season 2 Episode 4 is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 26, 2023.
