Loki Season 2 started out with a simple mission: prevent the Temporal Loom, which has been malfunctioning since Sylvie killed He Who Remains, from causing a catastrophic timeline catastrophe. However, at the end of Episode 4, Loki and his allies find themselves failing at saving the world and themselves. So is this truly the end? Executive producer Kevin Wright assures Marvel Cinematic Universe fans that they can expect to go to "profound places" in the last two episodes.
In Loki Season 2, O.B. recruits the assistance of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Mobius (Owen Wilson), and the unexpected ally Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors) to address the crisis with the Temporal Loom. Their plan involves temporarily deactivating Miss Minutes using Loki and Sylvie's magic to facilitate a system reboot for the TVA. Later, Sylvie enacts a compelling enchantment on Brad (Rafael Casal), compelling him to eliminate Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). With the duo offline and in custody, the group gains access to the Temporal Loom.
Victor Timely offers to wear a spacesuit, venture into the Loom, and employ his Throughput Multiplier to repair it. The act portrays him as more honorable than initially assumed and suggests he may not turn out to be another He Who Remains-style antagonist. Everything appears to be going according to plan. However, once O.B. exposes him to the continuously branching timelines within the Loom, Timely's body is gruesomely torn apart into spaghetti-like shreds. The rest of the TVA can only hopelessly watch as the Loom implodes and everything turns black.
Did everyone just die in Loki Season 2 Episode 4?
The shocking twist, where Loki's heroic efforts are in vain, underscores the unpredictable nature of the series. With two more episodes remaining in this second chapter of the Marvel show, it intensifies the anticipation for the climax of the storyline and the fate of these beloved characters. Executive producer Kevin Wright explains what led to the shocking conclusion in Episode 4.
"It was something we started learning in Season 1," he told GamesRadar+. "This idea of story acceleration. If the season seems like it's going to be about fixing that Temporal Loom, what if that just... breaks right in the middle of the season and everything goes wrong?"

"Not only did it allow us a really great cliffhanger, but where you go after that is totally new territory then," he continued. "If the first four episodes of Season 2 are about things falling apart or not working; choices being made that maybe aren't the right choices, then the back half can really allow us to go to some, hopefully, profound places."
Viewers are still in shock but Wright's statement is somehow assuring. With that in mind, we can't wait to see how the multiverse can finally be fixed next week.
Loki Season 2 Episode 4 is titled Heart of the TVA and is now streaming on Disney+. Episode 5 does not have an official title yet but will premiere on November 2, 2023.
