A recently revealed piece of concept art for Loki Season 2 has unveiled an intriguing alternative design for the character Ourobouros, commonly known as OB. Interestingly, the TVA technician was almost revealed to be a Variant of an established character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
The artwork, shared by Loki concept artist Aleksi Briclot on Instagram, depicts an early concept where OB was envisioned as a variant of Mobius, portrayed by Owen Wilson in the series. In this alternate design, OB sports red hair and a distinctive "mutton chops" beard, resembling a different take on Mobius.
The concept art suggests that the initial plan for OB was to make him a variant of Mobius, introducing a clone-like character with slight physical differences. This concept aligns with the theme of variants in the Loki series, where characters exist in multiple iterations across different timelines. However, the creative team ultimately chose a different path for OB, leading to the version that viewers came to love in Loki Season 2.
Loki Season 2 Made The Right Choice By Casting Ke Huy Quan as OB
The decision to depart from the initial concept was likely influenced by the desire to preserve the impact and uniqueness of the characters in the show. While Mobius already served as a prominent and beloved figure in the series, introducing a Variant with a strikingly similar appearance might have diluted the significance of the original Mobius. Furthermore, having two characters that closely resemble each other might have complicated the narrative and weakened the individuality of each character.
The revealed concept art sheds light on the creative process behind the development of Loki Season 2. It showcases the exploration of different ideas and iterations before arriving at the final design for OB. The process is common in the production of television series and movies, where characters undergo various conceptualizations and adjustments to best serve the storytelling goals of the project.

The chosen direction for OB in Loki Season 2, portrayed by actor Ke Huy Quan, ultimately resonated well with audiences. The character's distinct personality and interactions with other members of the cast, including Loki, contributed to his popularity among viewers. The decision to deviate from the initial concept and create a unique identity for OB was evidently successful, enriching the dynamics of the series and allowing each character to stand out in their own right.
Overall, the concept art for OB's early design provides a fascinating glimpse into the creative choices made during the development of Loki Season 2. It showcases the thought process behind character creation, emphasizing the importance of crafting compelling and individualized characters within the broader narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For now, Marvel has not yet confirmed Loki for a third season. However, fans are still hoping that the series will be renewed soon. In the meantime, all episodes of Loki Season 2 are currently streaming on Disney+.
