There is little doubt that Loki Season 2 is very different from the first one, and it might have a lot to do with the show employing a new cinematographer. Isaac Bauman takes over for Season 1's Autumn Durald Arkapaw and he got to play around with a few movie references. For instance, Bauman spoke about the cool reference to Back to the Future in Episode 4 and discussed the other films that inspired his work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
In Loki Season 2 Episode 4, Loki and Mobius brought Victor Timely to the TVA to enlist his help in fixing the Temporal Loom. Luckily, OB has already prepared a model of the Loom to show them how to use the device for the repair. But before his presentation, OB apologizes that the miniatures are not to scale, which sounds almost like something Emmet Brown declares in Back to the Future.
It's a cool reference and Isaac Bauman pointed out that although he was faintly aware of it, it wasn't something he intended.
"I did not, and I wasn't really aware of — I picked up on the Back to the Future Easter egg stuff that you were just talking about with the model in Episode 4," he told Screenrant. "But, I didn't have any fan type of Easter eggs in the cinematography."
While it was not a direct reference, Bauman spoke about the films that inspired his work on Loki Season 2.
"I will say 2001: A Space Odyssey was a major reference, and the look of big-budget studio films of that era in general, like Live and Let Die, that Bond movie that we reference. But then, we had more modern references that were films that were set in that time period, and kind of adopted some of the same retro techniques we wanted to, like Munich actually was a huge reference for us," he said.
What could happen in Loki Season 2 Episode 5?
The penultimate episode of Loki Season 2 presents an interesting opportunity for the God of Mischief, as teased in the mid-season trailer. In the teaser, it is confirmed that Loki and his companions are still very much alive somewhere in the timeline but it's a race against time to fix the Temporal Loom and save the Sacred Timeline.
One of the interesting revelations in the trailer also confirms that Loki is once again time-slipping, allowing him to meet the past Mobius, who just happens to be a jet ski salesman. It's going to be a cool glimpse at Mobius' backstory and the God of Mischief just might be the reason why Mobius joined the TVA in the first place. With that in mind, fans are eager to find out how Loki will manage the near-impossible in the last two episodes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
Loki Season 2 Episode 5 has not yet been given an official title. Nevertheless, the next episodes of the MCU series is set to return on Disney+ on November 2, 2023.
