LEGO fans are getting the crossover they've always wanted to build. The LEGO Group has announced the first-ever LEGO Ideas challenge inviting fans to mash up Star Wars and Marvel — reimagining characters, vehicles, and scenes from both universes in brick form, with winning designs set to become official LEGO products.

The announcement was made October 10, 2026, at New York Comic Con during a panel featuring Kevin Smith, the actor, director, and Marvel Comics writer. The challenge is open now: builders choose from three themes — vehicles, characters, or scenes — review the rules, and submit their Star Wars/Marvel mash-up through the LEGO Ideas platform at ideas.lego.com.

What sets this apart from a typical building contest is the prize. Once submissions close and fans vote on their favorites, the winning designs will be immortalized as official LEGO sets. "This challenge is a milestone for LEGO Ideas and our fan community," said Fede Begher, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Group at the LEGO Group. "For the first time ever, fans can build with both Marvel and Star Wars in a single LEGO Ideas challenge, unlocking entirely new possibilities for creativity and storytelling."

The timing is deliberate. The challenge celebrates the Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles comic series, unveiled this past summer and launching in January as the first-ever crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel Comics universes. It also honors a landmark anniversary: 2027 marks 50 years of Star Wars, half a century after the original film redefined blockbuster storytelling.

For the uninitiated, LEGO Ideas is the company's crowdsourced design platform, where fan builders submit original concepts and the community votes on favorites. Past Ideas winners have ranged from intricate pop-culture dioramas to working miniature icons — but never before has a single challenge spanned two licensed universes at once. That makes this a genuine first: builders can pit a Star Destroyer against a Helicarrier, reimagine Spider-Man facing down Darth Vader, or stage an Avengers/X-wing rescue mission, all within official LEGO rules.

Smith's involvement is a fitting touch — beyond his film work, he has written for Marvel Comics, making him a natural bridge between the two universes on stage. And for the winners, the journey won't end at selection: LEGO Ideas grand-prize designs are traditionally refined in collaboration with LEGO's own designers before hitting shelves, meaning the fan concepts that win will be polished into true retail-ready sets for 2027.

Voting on submissions begins December 15, 2026, with the Grand Prize selections to be announced next year. Builders looking to enter can find the full rules and the dedicated campaign page. Given how passionately both fandoms build, expect the submissions gallery to fill up fast.
