Divorce papers can wait when a mega-typhoon is bearing down on your hometown. A married couple who have already decided to separate find themselves stranded together at a relative's wedding when a massive storm strikes — the premise of Typhoon (working title), a new Korean disaster escape comedy that has finalized its ensemble cast and begun filming ahead of a planned 2027 release.

CJ ENM confirmed the casting on October 14, announcing an eight-actor lineup led by Koo Kyo-hwan and Han Ji-min as the couple at the center of the storm. The distributor describes the film as a "disaster escape comedy" about Jin-mo and Jae-yi, who have decided to part ways but travel to Jin-mo's hometown for a relative's wedding, only to be caught in a massive typhoon.

Koo Kyo-hwan plays Jin-mo, an ordinary office worker from a small provincial city who graduated from Seoul University and joined a major corporation, yet has remained stuck at the assistant-manager level for years. The role marks a grounded turn for Koo, who is set to showcase what the announcement calls his "signature humane charm" as an ordinary husband and father caught in an extraordinary situation. Jin-mo is introduced as a classic "dragon from the stream" — a self-made man from a small city who climbed to Seoul University and a conglomerate job, only to stall out as a perennial assistant manager — and expectations are high for Koo's transformation into an everyday family man.

Han Ji-min plays Jae-yi, Jin-mo's wife — a bold former rising talent at a publishing company who left her job after deciding she could not balance work and child-rearing, and now dreams of becoming a YouTuber. Sharp, decisive, and endlessly resourceful, Jae-yi relies on practical everyday know-how to find a breakthrough in every disaster situation, and the announcement suggests that the meeting of her plucky colors and Han's lovable screen presence could produce a career-defining character.

Oh Jung-se plays Sang-hyuk, Jin-mo's hometown friend and a 119 rescue worker who throws himself into saving the stranded couple, only to end up trapped alongside them. His lovable, free-spirited performance is already being flagged as one of the film's highlights to watch.

Han Sun-hwa plays Rose, a pension owner who refuses to discount rooms even as the typhoon closes in, yet dreams of a Titanic-like romance. The role reunites Han with Koo and Oh after the three starred together in the drama We Are All Trying Here.

Kim Eung-soo and Oh Min-ae play Hyun-deok and Pil-ja, a couple of 48 years traveling the country in a camper van, whose bickering-but-caring dynamic adds warmth to the chaos.

Kim Yo-han of the New Recruit series and Choi Ji-su of Undercover Miss Hong play Dae-han and Cha-young, an engaged couple who preach their baseless belief that their own marriage will be happier than everyone else's, bringing a sweet, lively energy to the disaster.

Behind the camera, Typhoon is written and directed by Lee Jung-ho, the filmmaker behind The Beast (2019) and Broken (2014). The production held its script reading in late September with all eight leads in attendance, and word from the reading room was that the cast's prepared performances and playful chemistry raised expectations for the shoot. Cameras started rolling this month, with CJ ENM distributing.
