In the previous episode, Kaiju No. 8 almost defeated Kaiju No. 9, but the Defense Force members showed up, thinking the former was also an enemy. In the worst possible outcome, Vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina arrived, too, and challenged No. 8 in a battle. However, though a fight ensues, the preview for Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8, titled Welcome to the Defense Force, shows Hoshina hesitating to fight Kafka Hibino’s monster form.

The Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8 trailer starts with No. 8 preparing for an attack as he faces Hoshina. However, he’s later seen trying to escape to avoid fighting off the Vice-captain, stressing he’s not an opponent who must be defeated for being too lazy. Blood starts to burst out of No. 8’s body after Hoshina manages to slash him with his weapon. No. 8 continuously dodges Hoshina’s attacks, but the former seems to unleash his full powers before the scene cuts to Kikoru Shinomiya catching Kafka as he returns to his human form.
The Third Division Platoon Leader, Ryo Ikaruga, appears and talks to someone in the location where the Kaiju attacked. Kafka is then seen with Mina Ashiro in her office. The two salute each other while Mina talks about a monster that will only be subdued after abandoning its human form.
The Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8 stills, on the other hand, show the intense and funny turn of events about to unfold. Hashino looks eager to defeat No. 8 as he continues to attack. He’s then seen sitting on the ground behind Mina. Third Division Operations Leader Konomi Okonogi and Hashino appear to be enjoying their time while seemingly making fun of Reno Ichikawa.
The next still shows Kafka wearing his Defense Force member suit and appearing in Mina’s office. No. 8's comical face is seen as he seems to frighten a guy. For the last still, No. 8 gathers all his strength as he looks to prepare for an attack.

What to Expect from Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8 will pick up where the previous episode left off. The battle between No. 8 and Hashino continues, but the former will try to avoid fighting the Vice-captain. Aware of his great powers and abilities, No. 8 knows he may injure Hsohina if he fights back. But amid Hoshina’s eagerness to defeat No. 8, he still hesitates to fight him off, feeling something off about their fight.

Kafka transforms into Kaiju No. 8 to save Reno and the others from a mysterious humanoid monster. Just as he manages to fend off the humanoid monster, he comes face to face with Hoshina, who is pursuing Kaiju No. 8! While struggling against Hoshina's fierce attack, Kafka hesitates to fight, fearing that he might retaliate and injure him. Kafka barely manages to escape, but Hoshina feels something is off about the fight.
The anime is based on Naoya Matsumoto’s manga of the same title. Since starting serialization in July 2020, it has collected 12 tankobon volumes and sold over 13 million copies. Viz Media has licensed the manga in English. Production I.G. adapted it into anime, premiering in April 2024 and releasing seven episodes.

No. 8’s battle against Hoshina is one the most epic fights fans need to see in Kaiju No. 8. Though No. 8 tries his best not to fight back, what makes this battle stop remains to be seen. Hoshina feels something is off with Kafka, and he may soon learn that despite being a kaiju, No. 8 is not an enemy.
