With the success of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, even nabbing the top-prize anime of the year award and 10 other categories at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, the anime announced earlier this month a special screening of some parts of the Shibuya Incident arc. This includes Episodes 41-44 or the second season’s Episodes 17-20, with Episode 17, titled Thunderclap, Part 2, to feature additional cuts and revised footage. And though they haven’t hit the big screen yet, Episode 17 has been part of the recent Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Volume 4 Blu-ray/DVD release, revealing a stunning major overhaul, different from what fans see.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Volume 4 Blu-ray/DVD was released on Wednesday, March 20. As expected, many couldn’t help but compare the differences between the TV and home video releases. It has been known that back when the second season was still in the works, animators blasted MAPPA Studios for its unreasonable work schedule, probably affecting the series’ animation.
Now, to make it up to fans, the Blu-ray version of Episode 17 features quality animation, much better than what was made when the artists were rushing to complete the second season. The revised scenes of Sukuna and Mahoraga’s fight are more remarkable, while the added sequences are astonishing, to say the least. Though the TV release was intense enough, the edited version takes the battle up a notch with much fiercer action-packed scenes. So, despite the many issues the studio has faced, it has redeemed itself with this revision.
