After Warner Bros. Discovery and DC announced a new Justice League animated movie based on Crisis on Infinite Earths at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, many believed it could lead to a new live-action adaptation directed by James Gunn. When the DC Studios co-CEO heard the news, he quickly shot down the claims with a simple answer.
Crisis on Infinite Earths is a comic book crossover written by Marv Wolfman and art made by George Pérez. The 12-issue miniseries, which took place in 1985, has given birth to several sequels and, now, a new animated movie titled Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
James Gunn Addresses DC Movie Rumors
Gunn addressed the rumors surrounding the upcoming DC movies Superman: Legacy and the possible live-action adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths. He first responded to a post on Threads (via Deadline) when a headline titled, Did DC Just Announce a Justice League Movie for James Gunn’s Reboot?, with a simple “No.”
Later, he also clarified the claim that he included Superman: Legacy’s superhero cast with three new characters upon the order of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, saying, “Of course not.” Since becoming DC Studios co-head with Peter Safran, the filmmaker’s first project is the said Superman film.
He recently confirmed that Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific would be part of the movie. As this would be the first time they would be introduced in Superman: Legacy, some thought Zaslav asked him to do so to attract “potential buyers.”
