After a couple of delays, Star Wars: Hunters finally launched on Tuesday, and Star Wars fans were able to play Zynga's free-to-play 4v4 arena shooter on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Unfortunately, as of this month, gamers won't be able to play it on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC. As expected, many are wondering if Star Wars: Hunters will launch for those platforms, and we may already have an answer from the game's developers.

For those unfamiliar, Star Wars: Hunters features multiplayer battles in the planet of Vespaara, where high-intensity, high-stakes battles take place in "The Arena," which features backgrounds that "evoke iconic Star Wars worlds," according to Zynga. Players can select different characters but don't expect iconic ones like Darth Vader or Ahsoka to be playable here as the game instead introduces a fresh roster of new Hunters that fit into different types such as Jedi, Sith, Bounty Hunters, and Droids.

Before we get to what the developer said, let's first take a look at what platforms you can currently play Star Wars: Hunters on.

Which platforms is Star Wars: Hunters available on?

On June 4, 2024, Star Wars: Hunters officially launched for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices. That means that gamers who prefer to play on PlayStation consoles, Xbox Series X/S, or PC are out of luck. Let's not forget that publisher/developer Zynga is known for its mobile games, so this shouldn't come as a big. surprise.

But will the free-to-play squad-based Star Wars shooter launch for other platforms in the future? Check out what the developers said in a recent interview.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the developers of Star Wars: Hunters currently have no plans to launch the game to other platforms such as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, or PC. The game's design director Scott Warner was recently interviewed by Radio Times during an official preview event for Star Wars: Hunters

"We don’t really have any plans right now," Warner told the outlet when we asked specifically about bringing Star Wars: Hunters to other platforms post-launch.

"An initial genesis of [the project] is that, you know, our company wanted to get into shooters, you know?", he added. "We’ve kind of gone from shooters always being a second screen experience, to games proving that you could actually play them on the phone. And our company president believed that this was kind of a key category wanted to be in."

Senior art director Rich Kemp also told Radio Times: "Making it cross-platform and Switch makes perfect sense. It is Zynga’s first sort of console release."

When Radio Times asked why they launched the game on Nintendo Switch, Warner said:

It's a very, like, approachable console, it's a broader audience that's on that console. It does kind of, you know, fit with the approachable nature of what we're trying to present. We want it to be easy to pick up and play. Those people who invest in it, we want to also have a ramp of skills that they can actually get better at, and learn how to work as a team, play ranked mode, that sort of thing. But we want it to be, initially, pick up and play, very friendly, family friendly, good for everybody. And obviously, the Switch is great for that.
