The court will officially be back in session, for it has been confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 will hit the small screens soon. Netflix has renewed the hit legal drama for another installment on August 30, 2023, and it is set to return with a total of 10 episodes, which is plenty of time for Mickey to dive into another case.

Prior to the official The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 announcement, fans were treated with a serialized plot that followed attorney Mickey Haller as he battled prosecutor Andy Freeman while representing his latest client, chef Lisa Trammell, who was accused of murdering a real estate developer. Following the explosive Season 2 finale, which concluded Lisa's case, viewers of The Lincoln Lawyer may wonder where Mickey and his town car will travel next.

For starters, Matthew McConaughey portrayed Michael Connelly's car-cruising attorney in a 2011 film before Manuel Garcia-Rulfo took over for a Netflix series. The program characterizes him as "an iconoclastic idealist" who conducts his law office from the back seat of his Lincoln, taking on cases big and small around Los Angeles. As fans await more details, here is everything we know so far about the upcoming The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Potential Release Date: When is it coming to Netflix?

Because The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 has not been written, filming will unlikely commence until late 2023 or early 2024. To recall, Season 2 was released 14 months after the first season, which debuted on Netflix in May 2022. So, the forthcoming third installment should premiere sometime in 2025, depending on when filming begins.

Of the imminent The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3, Peter Friedlander, VP of scripted series for Netflix US and Canada, told The Hollywood Reporter:

“We’re thrilled to bring back The Lincoln Lawyer for a third season. Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez have taken us deeper into Mickey Haller’s world, building out characters and stories that have connected with our global audience, and we look forward to seeing what they have in store for everyone’s favorite lawyer. The show continues to top our global lists, and it’s a testament to the work from a creative powerhouse team including Michael Connelly, David E. Kelly, Ross Fineman, and our partners at A+E Studios.”

Co-showrunner Ted Humphrey also shared details about the forthcoming The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3. He shared to Collider:

“The season ends with a cliffhanger that clearly tees up the next season. The last 10 minutes of this season are the first couple of chapters of the next book that we’re gonna adapt. We had begun the process of that. We had convened our writers and began the process of that when the writers strike happened. Hollywood is obviously in a state of crisis right now. We obviously had to stop, as soon as the strike happened, but we’re very excited to get back to that, as soon as the strike is resolved. We are not officially greenlit for a third season. Netflix won’t do that until after the numbers come out from the second season, but everything looks positive. It was a vote of confidence in the show that they greenlit a writers room for a third season. So, we know where we’re going. We know what we’re basing it on.”

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 renewal comes as no surprise, given the low budget and strong performance of the most recent episodes. As a matter of fact, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 release date garnered 8.3 million total views and 35.3 million hours in July 2023.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Cast: Who are the actors starring in the upcoming season?

The entire cast, including Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, Jazz Raycole as Izzy, Angus Sampson as Cisco, and Becki Newton as Lorna, is expected to return for The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3. However, one major exception is Neve Campbell, who portrays Maggie.

To recall, when her demotion offered fewer cases, Maggie went for a job in San Diego at the end of Season 2. Along with The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 announcement, The Hollywood Reporter announced Campbell will not return to her role. Maggie may return in future seasons because she is still mentioned in the book series, but fans must say farewell for now.

Meanwhile, Manuel is unlikely to leave the position anytime soon. While it has provided him with new opportunities, he has fallen in love with the character. He told Parade:

“Every project brings you more, especially these TV series. I think it gets you more parts or you can get pickier about things you want to do as an actor, but personally, it doesn’t do anything honestly. I go to my ranch where everybody knows me from when I was a kid. Nobody knows that I’m an actor because there’s no Netflix there. So, for me, I don’t get into my head. It came when I was mature enough. I think if it would have come earlier in my life – you’re younger and you’re starting and all that – I think it would have got into my head. Now, I’m just grateful.”

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Plot: What is the upcoming season about?

Netflix has not made any official announcements about the storyline of the imminent third installment. However, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 plot will likely adapt the book The Gods of Guilt, which covers the murder of a former client of Mickey’s.

So far, fans have seen elements of the book series used from The Brass Verdict, The Fifth Witness, and more. In The Gods of Guilt, Mickey gets a panicked text about a murder. When he learns the victim was a former client, he is haunted by the past and prepares to put all his skills to the test working the case.

Meanwhile, fans are especially excited to see The Reversal made into a live-action film because it features Mickey teaming up with his half-brother: Harry Bosch. He has his own Prime Video show, so a crossover seems unlikely, but viewers can hope. Below is the official synopsis of the said material:

“When Mickey Haller is invited by the Los Angeles County District Attorney to prosecute a case for him, he knows something strange is going on. Mickey’s a defence lawyer, one of the best in the business, and to switch sides like this would be akin to asking a fox to guard the hen-house. But the high-profile case of Jason Jessup, a convicted child-killer who spent almost 25 years on death row before DNA evidence freed him, is an intriguing one… eager for the publicity and drawn to the challenge, Mickey takes the case, with Detective Harry Bosch on board as his lead investigator. But as a new trial date is set, it starts to look like he’s been set up. Mickey and Harry are going to have to dig deep into the past and find the truth about what really happened to the victim all those years ago.”
