PC players have always been made to wait for Rockstar's biggest games — sometimes well over a year. A new report claims that wait could shrink to a matter of months for Grand Theft Auto VI.
GamesBeat reported on October 13 that Rockstar plans to release the PC version of GTA 6 in the first quarter of 2027, citing four industry sources familiar with the studio's plans. The sources spoke anonymously to protect their business relationships. If the report holds, the PC version would arrive between January and March 2027 — less than five months after the console launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced a PC version at all.
That would be a sharp break from tradition. Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 2015, a wait of roughly a year and seven months. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed the same pattern, arriving on consoles in October 2018 and on PC just over a year later, in November 2019. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reinforced that playbook in May, saying Rockstar "always starts on console" — while also acknowledging that PC can account for 45 to 50 percent of sales on some titles.
GamesBeat's sources reportedly point to the game's online future as the reason for the faster timeline. GTA 6's online mode has yet to be officially announced, but the PC audience is where the series' roleplay community lives: Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM roleplay platform, in 2023, and has signaled that user-generated content will play a role in the new game.
A bigger PC audience sooner would help Rockstar build the kind of player-made content economy that powers Fortnite and Roblox. The report also lines up with earlier claims — VGC journalist Andy Robinson said a month ago that the PC version could land as soon as February 2027 — and with Take-Two's own fiscal plan for the year ending March 31, 2027, which lists GTA 6 alongside one unnamed "platform extension," a port of an existing game to another system.
For now, all of it remains unconfirmed. The console version of GTA 6 is locked at 30 frames per second at launch, so a PC release would likely be the first version able to run the game at higher framerates — if the reported window proves accurate. Rockstar has already delayed GTA 6 twice, from 2025 to May 2026 and then to November 19, 2026, so PC players will want an official announcement before they start upgrading their rigs.
