GTA 6 developers at Rockstar Games face renewed cybersecurity concerns as a hacker group has announced plans to publish compromised company information. The incident involves a third-party breach that granted access to a limited amount of non-material data, prompting demands for payment rom the hackers.
The group, known as ShinyHunters, claimed responsibility for the breach and warned that the stolen materials would be made public. BBC reporting, which included direct communication with the hackers, detailed how they accessed Rockstar’s systems through a third-party service, escalating tensions as the ransom deadline approached.
The hackers told the BBC they would proceed with publishing the stolen data “as their demands had not been met.”
On April 11, a Rockstar Games spokesperson confirmed the data breach in a statement. “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”
No breach data from Rockstar Games has surfaced online, but we will update here on Epicflix once the leaks appear.
This marks the second time Rockstar Games has been breached during GTA 6’s development. In 2022, over 90 in-game development videos of the highly-anticipated title leaked online, drawing widespread attention to the project’s early progress and reportedly causing internal disruptions.
The latest incident stems from hackers exploiting a third-party cloud monitoring tool linked to Rockstar’s data infrastructure, allowing them to reach a Snowflake data warehouse without directly compromising core systems. Reports indicate the group posted claims on dark web forums, demanding payment by April 14, 2026, and threatening additional digital disruptions if ignored. Rockstar has maintained that the accessed information holds limited significance and poses no risk to ongoing operations or the gaming community.
Such breaches highlight vulnerabilities in supply-chain security for major game studios, especially those handling large-scale projects with extensive digital assets. Rockstar, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, has invested heavily in GTA 6 development, building on the massive success of previous entries in the franchise. The studio’s history of high-profile releases underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in protecting intellectual property and sensitive corporate details.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. There is no release date for PC yet, with many expecting a later window following the console launches, consistent with Rockstar’s traditional rollout strategy for major titles.
