God of War Laufey is slipping by three months. The Faye-led entry in the series will now launch on May 20, 2027, moved from its previous date of February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Santa Monica Studio announced the delay in a statement, telling fans: "We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential." The studio thanked players for their patience and said it will be back to share more updates soon.

The game follows Laufey — Faye, the warrior wife of Kratos — who awakens after her death at the start of God of War (2018) and fights her way through the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. Set concurrently with the 2018 game and God of War Ragnarök, her journey is a fight to protect Kratos and Atreus from beyond the grave, against gods from across mythologies who vie for power in the Everywhen. Among the gods she encounters are Egypt's Sekhmet and Tibet's Begtse, and her fighting style leans into the premise — at one point she quite literally punches the souls out of her enemies. Its combat is built to be intimate, brutal and acrobatic, pairing the fluid movement of the series' Greek era with its Norse-era world.

For Woll, the role is a major expansion. Faye was a presence felt more than seen in the Norse games — dead before the 2018 story begins, appearing through memories and visions in Ragnarök — while Laufey puts her at the center of a full adventure for the first time. The premise lets Santa Monica Studio tell the other half of the Norse saga: what Faye was doing, and what she was fighting, while Kratos and Atreus made their own journey.

Deborah Ann Woll leads the cast as Faye, reprising the role from God of War Ragnarök. Jack Quaid voices Phranque, a curious cosmic cube, and Perlina Lau voices Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian, while Christopher Judge returns as Kratos in what is expected to be a smaller role. Ariel Lawrence directs the game, with studio head of creative Cory Barlog overseeing the series.

The delay also reshapes a crowded early 2027. God of War Laufey was first revealed in a State of Play in June 2026 with no date attached, then landed its February slot at a San Diego Comic-Con panel in July — a month that also holds Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable and Metro 2039. The move to May takes Faye out of that pile-up entirely.
