What Is Gachiakuta About?

Gachiakuta originates from a manga by Kei Urana, a rare female mangaka whose unique perspective has garnered attention in the shonen genre. Serialized by Kodansha, the manga has captivated readers with its raw emotional depth, intricate world-building, and striking graffiti-inspired art. The anime adaptation, produced in partnership with Kodansha, Avex, and Studio Bones—known for My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist—aims to bring Urana’s vision to life with a bold aesthetic and top-tier production values.

Here's Crunchyroll's description of Gachiakuta anime:

Crawl back from the abyss of Hell to change this lousy world! Rudo lives in the slums of a floating town, where the poor scrape by under the shadow of the rich who live a sumptuous life, simply casting their garbage off the side, into the abyss. Then one day, he’s falsely accused of murder, and his wrongful conviction leads to an unimaginable punishment—exile off the edge, with the rest of the trash. Down on the surface, the cast-off waste of humanity has bred vicious monsters, and if Rudo wants to have any hope of discovering the truth and seeking vengeance against those who cast him into Hell, he will have to master a new power and join a group known as the Cleaners who battle the hulking trash beasts of the Pit!

Crunchyroll’s strategic rollout of Gachiakuta includes global premiere events and advance screenings in 15 countries, such as Anime Expo in the United States and Japan Expo in France, starting July 4, 2025. The anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll, airing every Sunday at 11:30 PM JST on CBC, TBS, and affiliated channels in Japan, with worldwide availability in regions including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and India. The opening theme, HUGs by Paledusk, and the ending theme, Tomoshibi by Dustcell, further elevate the series’ intense atmosphere, as showcased in the trailer.
