After making a name for playing a young Princess Diana in The Crown Season 4, Emma Corrin (a non-binary who uses they/them pronouns) is tapped to join the upcoming Deadpool 3 in a mysterious villainous role. And for the first time, the Lady Chatterley Lover’s star talks about their new character, though they still remain mum about it.
Corrin is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after director Shawn Levy cast them in the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 following seeing her performance in the stage production of Orlando last year. Due to the movie’s secrecy, just like fans, Corrin had no idea about the film, which will see Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman together as Deadpool and Wolverine.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, the 27-year-old revealed they were excited to “play a villain” in the new Marvel movie. “I haven’t done that, and it’s an itch I want to scratch,” they said.
Though they knew about the project, as classic Marvel, no one could tell them anything about it. “Absolutely nothing. Zilch. So, I met [Shawn] being like, ‘I don’t know what this is about,’” they continued when the filmmaker set up a meeting with them.
But instead of talking about Deadpool 3, Corrin revealed they admitted to Levy that they weren’t a Marvel person and the only Marvel films they had watched were Spider-Man and Black Panther. So, Levy had to “debrief” them on this.
It’s such an intricate world. There’s so much to it, it’s an absolute mindfuck. All the language and the Easter eggs, and this person is related to that person who did this, and this person came back, and this person’s dead… it’s amazing.
Though details about the third Deadpool film remain under wraps, Corrin feels lucky to be part of it. “I feel really lucky to be part of it. Especially Deadpool, because I love the fact that it’s self-aware and critical of its own inner workings,” they explained.
What Villainous role Emma Corrin could play in Deadpool 3?
There are no words yet on what villainous role Corrin would play in Deadpool 3, but fans have made different theories about it. Considering there are several female villains in the MCU and the growing anticipation, here are some big bads they could play.
First on the list is Lady Deadpool. As some believe that Deadpool 3 will be a multiverse caper, it may include a female version of the protagonist, and that’s Lady Deadpool.
Next is Itsy Bitsy, who was injected with a mixture of Deadpool and Spider-Man’s DNA, transforming her into a human/spider hybrid. With her intention to do good in the work, she tried to work with Deadpool and Spider-Man, but they turned them away due to her dangerous method of stopping crimes.
Some believe Corrin could also play Lady Deathstrike, especially after a casting call for a woman between 30 to 50 years old to play the female villain for Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Fans should only take these assumptions with a grain of salt, as Marvel has yet to confirm anything.
Surely, whatever role Corrin will play, fans will begin to love and hate them with their great acting talent. Deadpool 3 is set to be released on May 3, 2024.
