All eyes are now on the new Dragon Ball anime series, Dragon Ball Daima. Officially announced at this year’s New York Comic-Con, it will see Goku and the Z-fighters return to the small screen five years after Dragon Ball Super anime. Though the details remain scarce, the franchise’s creator, Akira Toriyama, talks about the new series and describes what fans are about to see.
Before Dragon Ball Daima was officially announced, fans already suspected that a new anime would be revealed after New York Comic-Con promised to give an update on the world of Dragon Ball. Of course, many celebrated upon hearing the news, especially since it was addressed as Toei Animation’s “next major anime project” and a celebration for the franchise’s 40th anniversary.
To give further details about this project, the anime’s official website has released Toriyama’s statement on the new anime. Like the other Dragon Ball series, the mangaka will write and illustrate Dragon Ball Daima. Hence, he says he’s now busy working on it and reveals that “Daima” is only a made-up term, which means something like “evil.”

What is Dragon Ball Daima about?
Though its official synopsis is yet to be revealed, Toriyama describes its story, revealing it will see Goku and his friends returning to their younger versions due to a conspiracy. So, to fix things, they have to go to a new world to start a great adventure. There will also be intense action in the unknown and mysterious universe they’re in.
And since Goku is relatively small in Dragon Ball Daima, he has to use his “Nyoibo (Power Pole),” which fans haven’t seen in a long while, to fight. Toriyama also teased that the new anime would unfold mysteries in the Dragon Ball world and the battles would be different from usual, calling them “cute and powerful.”
“I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs,” he says. “I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual.”
Dragon Ball Daima is scheduled for release in the Fall of 2024. It may still take a little while before fans see this new series on the small screens, but many are already hyped up.
