Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING Anime Continues With Senku's Boldest Experiment Yet

The petrification is undone and civilization stands again — but Senku's greatest experiment is still to come in Dr. STONE.

Senku Ishigami's story was supposed to be over. The petrification mystery is solved, civilization is rebuilt, and the Dr. STONE anime wrapped its final season in June. But the Stone Fes. 2026 event had one more surprise: the science isn't finished yet.

The official Dr. STONE website announced on October 10 that production has been green-lit on Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING, a sequel to the television anime. The reveal came during the Stone Fes. 2026 event at Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium, held to celebrate the anime's seven-year run. The new anime will adapt the "Terraforming" sequel story from the manga's 27th volume — a story set after the conclusion of the main plot.

The trailer features newly recorded dialogue from Senku, and the sequel picks up in dramatic fashion. The story opens with Senku waking up alone and stranded in the middle of the ocean after a plane accident caused by a lightning strike. The crash accidentally petrifies the rest of the main cast, forcing Senku to restart from zero — reusing the survival skills and scientific know-how he spent the entire series building — to revive his companions one by one. But survival is only the beginning: the story builds toward Senku's biggest experiment yet, a working time machine.

Dr. STONE TERRAFORMING continues one of the most consistent science-adventure runs in modern anime. The first television season premiered in July 2019, followed by Dr. STONE: Stone Wars in January 2021, the Dr. STONE: Ryusui special in July 2022, Dr. STONE: New World across 2023, and the final season Dr. STONE: Science Future, which concluded on June 25, 2026 after three cours. The finale unraveled the truth behind the petrification while leaving the door open with Senku's vow to build a time machine and undo the tragedy.

Inagaki shared a message celebrating the announcement, marveling that the anime adapted the manga all the way to its final chapter — and that Senku's scientific adventure was still continuing. "This is insanely exhilarating!!" he wrote. Boichi added that he was happy to share the news with everyone who watched the anime, and asked audiences to look forward to further updates. Character designer Yuko Iwasa also drew a commemorative illustration for the announcement.

What is Dr. STONE about?

The anime adapts the manga written by Riichiro Inagaki (Eyeshield 21) and illustrated by Boichi (Sun-Ken Rock), which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2017 to March 2022 for a total of 232 chapters across 27 volumes. Viz Media publishes the manga in English in print and digital, and it is also available on Shueisha's MANGA Plus platform.

Several thousand years after a mysterious phenomenon that turns all of humanity to stone, the extraordinarily intelligent, science-driven boy, Senku Ishigami, awakens. Facing a world of stone and the total collapse of civilization, Senku makes up his mind to use science to rebuild the world.
