The latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 served as a major teaser for the Shibuya Incident arc as we got our first major fight between a sorcerer and a Cursed Spirit. In addition to that, Episode 7 introduced some major players who will be in Shibuya as the battle begins. Interestingly, a new character has been introduced and he's played by an actor who has a small but important role in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 7, Shibuya was covered in a mysterious curtain and it was quickly revealed that the Curse Users are demanding Satoru Gojo's presence. Several sorcerers, including the students being promoted to Grade 1, were immediately dispatched to the area. Interestingly, Panda is accompanied by his instructor Atsuya Kusakabe who is worried about a bunch of special-grade curses inside the Shibuya Hikarie Building.

This isn't the first time we've seen Kusakabe since he's already shown up in the Shibuya Incident arc trailer. However, it's the first time we've heard him speak and his voice is provided by legendary actor Shinichiro Miki who previously played Tanjiro's father Tanjuro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Miki has played a lot of major characters in anime in his long career. He is known for playing Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super, André Gide in Bungo Stray Dogs, and Tatsuma Sakamoto in Gintama. Miki recently took on the role of Kisuke Urahara in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.
Who is Atsuya Kusakabe in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Kusakabe is a Grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer who instructs the Second-Year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He is set to join the fight in the Shibuya Incident arc although he is initially reluctant to do so because of the sheer number of special-grade curses.
For now, it isn't clear if the anime will change Kusakabe's plans around Shibuya but his appearance in the trailer suggests he will play a larger role later this year. With that in mind, we're keeping an eye out for the sorcerer.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 8 is titled Shibuya Incident ("Shibuya Jihen"). It is already set to premiere on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
