Deadpool & Wolverine Star Ryan Reynolds Teases Channing Tatum's Return to the MCU

Channing Tatum finally had the chance to play Remy LeBeau / Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine after a long cinematic history, thanks to Ryan Reynolds. Many were surprised to see the Magic Mike star wearing the comic-accurate costume of the exploding playing card-wielding mutant, finally bringing him to life after almost 20 years. As Reynolds campaigned for Tatum’s Gambit movie, the Canadian actor teased Tatum’s return to the MCU after the threequel.

In a post on his social media pages, Reynolds shared a deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine, focusing on Gambit. It saw Gambit walking in the Void as Cassandra Nova’s (Emma Corrin) army, including Toad, lay lifeless on the ground. As Gambit faced the camera, he gave a sly smile while Doctor Strange’s iconic Inter-Dimensional Portal, which Reynolds called Marvel Sparkle Circle, reflected in his eyes.

“*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle,” Reynolds captioned his post. “A version of this sequence is in the film, playing on one of the monitors in the deep background of the TVA.”

By the looks of it, Gambit may have seen the portal Deadpool (Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) left behind after the Resistance has defeated Cassandra's henchmen. If he happens to jump into it, it would mean that he has escaped the Void and is about to make his way to the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds Claims Channing Tatum is Born to Play Gambit After Deadpool & Wolverine

Over a week after Deadpool & Wolverine hit the big screen, Reynolds paid tribute to Tatum for his supporting role as Gambit in a post on social media. With the American actor’s perfect portrayal of the X-Man, Reynolds couldn’t help but compare Tatum’s Gambit cinematic history to his Deadpool.

“Chan spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen,” he wrote. “Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal. Some characters can only exist with a one in a billion pairing and this is it.”

Reynolds believed that Gambit had found his “author” in Tatum. As Gambit remains one of the largely unexplored mutants despite being one of the coolest and smartest characters in the comics, he wanted to see more of him played by Tatum.

“I want more — and from what I saw in theaters, you do too,” he continued.

As Deadpool & Wolverine properly said goodbye to some heroes from the Fox-Marvel universe, Reynolds continued that it also gave viewers new characters to root for, like Gambit. So, if rooting for Gambit was easy, he claimed rooting for Tatum was much easier.

“He’s one of the greatest, hardest working, kindest people in this entire industry,” he added. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to see @channingtatum pull Gambit from the dead and bring him to life at the perfect time and perfect way.”

After being linked to the role of Gambit since Brett Ratner’s 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand, Tatum had long wanted to bring this character to life in his own solo movie. This could have happened with his planned Gambit film, but it was ultimately canceled after the Disney-Fox merger. Now that Deadpool & Wolverine has renewed interest in Tatum’s Gambit and he’s part of the MCU, he may finally have the chance to star in his own superhero movie.
