Deadpool & Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman Hilariously Teases His Return When He's 90

After Deadpool quips that Disney will make Hugh Jackman play Wolverine until he's 90, the 55-year-old actor is seemingly preparing for it.

Deadpool & Wolverine features Hugh Jackman’s return as the fan-favorite, adamantium-clawed mutant after his supposed retirement in 2017 following the release of James Mangold’s Logan. Naturally, this excites many, especially since he’s working alongside Ryan Reynolds, who reprises his role as the Merc with a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as Deadpool quips that Disney will make Jackman play Wolverine until he’s 90, the Australian actor shares his hilarious reaction to the remark.

In an Instagram post, Jackman shares a short video of himself as Logan from Deadpool & Wolverine, wearing a Time Variance Authority (TVA) jacket. He appears confused and in disbelief, as he repeatedly hears Deadpool saying, “’til you’re 90,” seemingly accepting his fate of reprising his iconic role until he reaches that age. As Madonna’s Like a Prayer begins to play in the background, a title card reading “See you in 2058” appears.

Jackman has been playing the role of Wolverine for 24 years, starting with Bryan Singer’s 2000 X-Men. He was supposed to hold the Guinness World Records for the longest career as a Marvel character, but he was defeated by Wesley Snipes after he reprised his role as the half-vampire daywalker Eric Brooks in Deadpool & Wolverine 25 years and 340 days after his first Blade movie in 1998.

Though it may be unlikely that the 55-year-old star will be playing Wolverine until he’s in his 90s, it’s not entirely out of the question. It's worth noting that Harrison Ford, now in his 80s, is set to portray Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, aided by facial-capture technology. If Disney and Marvel Studios wish to see Jackman continue as Wolverine despite his advancing age, he might receive similar treatment.

Will Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in the MCU?

Jackman has remained mum about his return to the MCU and future in Marvel Studios, but many believe that he and Reynolds can be part of the upcoming Avengers movies Doomsday and Secret Wars. In fact, after being Earth-10005’s “anchor being” and saving that world of many mutants, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) says that Wolverine and Deadpool’s work is just getting started. This seems to hint that the two will return in some capacity.

Deadpool & Wolverine also features a Secret Wars Easter Egg when the titular characters arrive in the Void, and a half-buried comic issue of the 2015 Secret Wars #5 was seen beside Wade Wilson. Sure, the movie doesn’t serve as a commercial for the next MCU films, but it seems to be a tease that they may appear in the Avengers crossover as it’s set to end the Multiverse Saga.

Deadpool & Wolverine is Jackman’s first movie in the MCU after the Fox-Disney merger in 2019. With the film's success, now on its way to reaching the $1 billion mark at the global box office, fans will likely see him again. However, whether he will continue playing the role into his 90s is another question.
