Deadpool & Wolverine will be officially released in a few days, and long-awaiting fans will finally see Wade Wilson and Logan’s highly anticipated debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As this is the first time they will be seen together in the MCU, many can’t help but ask if there’s a chance for them to reunite in future Marvel projects with the continuity of the Multiverse Saga. By the looks of it, it isn’t far from happening after director Shawn Levy teases a “possible” reunion with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in future Marvel projects.
In an interview with Collider, Reynolds, Jackman, and Levy were asked about the possibility of doing another MCU project after the early positive reviews of Deadpool & Wolverine. The threequel is posed to be a big success, possibly hitting the $1 billion mark after Antony and Joe Russo’s 2019 Avengers: Endgame. Though the three didn’t give a definite answer, Levy revealed everything is possible.
“We had a blast,” he admitted. “I feel like we not only had fun, but it was so creatively fulfilling. Anything's possible.”
However, if fans expect Deadpool 3 to be a commercial for the next MCU films, especially with the upcoming X-Men reboot and two Avengers movies, Ryan Reynolds stressed that it would be a standalone. In fact, it was intentionally made to be a movie of its own, not related to other Marvel projects.
Will Hugh Jackman return as Logan after Deadpool & Wolverine?
Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine features Jackman’s return as the adamantium-clawed mutant after James Mangold’s Logan. The 2017 Fox movie was meant to be the Australian actor’s final outing as Logan after he announced his supposed retirement at the time. So, when asked if he would wear his mutant suit again in future projects, the 55-year-old revealed his answer wouldn’t matter after his epic comeback.
“It literally does not matter how I answer this, Steve, because I'm clearly a liar,” he explained. “But what's so great about my lie is I believed it. Fully. I fully believed it.”
Reynolds chimed in, calling Jackman the best liar, to which the latter added that he was a “borderline sociopath.” “Just a symphony of red flags,” Reynolds continued teasing.
So, amid the questions of his return, Jackman believed what he would say didn’t matter anymore. However, he couldn’t deny that he had fun doing Deadpool & Wolverine. In fact, on the first day that he wore his comic-accurate yellow suit, Reynolds revealed that the crew fell silent.
“That was one of the most amazing, emotional things I’ve ever seen,” Reynolds added.
Reynolds and Jackman played coy about their possible return to the MCU after Deadpool & Wolverine. This isn’t even the first time they did so. In a previous interview, the two addressed their potential appearance in the next Avengers movies, Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, with both saying they had no idea about it. However, as the threequel is part of the Multiverse Saga, and the two Avengers movies are set to cap off this epic story, there may be a big possibility that they will be seen in the MCU again.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release in theaters on Friday, July 26.
