There have been a lot of talks about the possible character cameos fans may see in Marvel Studios’ next big project, Deadpool & Wolverine. After a rumor emerged that Henry Cavill might make an appearance in the third Deadpool film as the adamantium-clawed mutant’s variant, another fan-favorite X-Men hero could appear. James Marsden dropped a big hint at his possible cameo in the threequel, which will mark his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if that happens.

In an interview with The Discourse podcast to promote his new movie, Knox Goes Away, Marsden was asked about his rumored return in Deadpool & Wolverine. Sure, he remained tight-lipped about his possible cameo. But, it looked like the actor couldn’t help himself and slipped a huge tease that he might reprise his role as Scott Summers/Cyclops in the movie when he revealed Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s filming location was just near the set of the much-anticipated Marvel movie.

“We were actually near the . . . Deadpool [production] stages up there in Pinewood,” he said. “Yeah, this is a little bit of a Pandora’s box.”

Though Marsden didn’t confirm anything, his revelation seemed to suggest that fans would once again see Cyclops after his brief appearance in 2014’s X-Men: Days of the Future Past. The 50-year-old understands that there’s a massive interest in the big character cameos happening in Deadpool & Wolverine. Aside from being the first Deadpool movie set in the MCU, it will also open the door for other X-Men characters to join Marvel’s shared universe, potentially shaping a grand future for the mutants.

“I keep hearing about that; I can't walk down the street without someone asking me,” he continued. “So, evidently, there's a lot of chatter about that.”

Will James Marsden return as Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Marsden rose to stardom when he played the role of Cyclops in the X-Men film series, receiving critical acclaim for his great performance. However, as a lot has happened to the franchise, especially after Disney acquired its rights from 20th Century Fox, he expressed his interest in reprising his iconic role if the opportunity arises.

In an interview with The Wrap in 2023, Marsden revealed that he would likely don his visor again if there would be good material and story for his character. However, though he would love to explore his character more, he first wanted to know what the project would look like.

“It's a character I've played that is very close to my heart,” he said. “You know that family, I miss it dearly. We created a very special thing in the first couple of X-Men movies.”

Who among the X-Men Characters will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Marvel Studios has remained mum about the X-Men characters who will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, leaked set photos and even the movie’s teaser have confirmed the crossover between the Fox franchise and the MCU. This includes Aaron Stanford’s Pyro, Sabertooth, and Toad. Fans will also see Colossus, Yukio, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead making their way to the multiverse. There are also rumors that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen may reprise their roles as Professor X and Magneto in the movie.

Shawn Levy earlier said that securing these cameos was an easy task. He even loved the “proliferation of casting rumors.” But with the many assumptions, he stressed that it only made it hard to determine “what’s real and what’s made up.”
