There’s a great anticipation surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine. Aside from being the first Deadpool movie to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will also see the duo of Wade Wilson and Logan on the big screen. Well, it won’t be the most anticipated summer movie of the year for nothing. But before Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman came together to unveil the film’s title, fans used to call it Deadpool 3. Now, director Shawn Levy explains why the MCU movie isn’t Deadpool 3 and reveals the difference.
Sure, Deadpool & Wolverine continues Wade Wilson’s story after traveling back and saving his dead loved ones in Deadpool 2. But though it’s still a third Deadpool movie, Levy told ScreenRant in an interview that it’s not Deadpool 3 due to its distinction from the first two films: the story of two massive Marvel characters.
“It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool & Wolverine,” he explained. “And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”
Levy also talked about his works for the threequel, making him feel privileged for having two of the biggest movie stars today, Reynolds and Jackman, playing their most iconic roles. He added that doing the film and working with these two actors gave him the “opportunity.”
Shawn Levy Talks About Wade Wilson and Logan’s Dynamic in Deadpool & Wolverine
Aside from the third Deadpool film, fans also look forward to seeing Wade and Logan’s rapport in Deadpool & Wolverine. These two are known for being frenemies. Though they sometimes try to kill each other, they act like best friends at different times. That said, Levy talked about their dynamic and the goal behind it.
“Well, I'll tell you that the guiding thought in crafting the movie was audience joy. That was always the North Star,” he said. “Yeah, it's going to be gnarly. Yeah, it's gonna be funny. That's a given. But we wanted to build a great time at the theater for audiences, and that's our goal.”
What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?
Deadpool & Wolverine will see its two titular characters coming together to defeat a common enemy. This time, they will work under the Time Variance Authority after Wade gets abducted on his birthday. As seen in the film’s CinemaCon footage, TVA agent Paradox tells Wade that he can save the Sacred Timeline and join the world he has always wanted. As the alliance between Deadpool and Wolverine is about to begin, it’s set to change the MCU.
