Millie Bobby Brown will continue taking over the world as she is set to star in a new Netflix movie called Damsel, following the undeniable success of Stranger Things. The American actress, best known for her breakout role as Eleven, is taking on the imminent fantasy film, which will see her as a young woman sacrificed to a bloodthirsty dragon.

In fairytales, the damsel in distress requires a prince to save her, and these tales have become so common that they have become cliché. The Damsel movie, however, is expected to be different because the main character in peril can save herself.

Damsel was announced in March 2020, with Dan Mazeau as the scriptwriter, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum as producers and Oscar-nominated Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as director. Millie was cast as Princess Elodie and was named as an executive producer for the movie, with a projected budget of $60 to $70 million. As fans await for more details about the upcoming movie, here is everything you need to know about Damsel.

Damsel is set to be released worldwide on Netflix on October 13, 2023. With the refusal of Netflix to commit to theatrical releases, fans are very unlikely to see the film on the big screen.

In other words, it is likely to remain exclusively on the American streaming giant’s platform. The filming kicked off in February 2022 and was completed on July 1, 2022, in Tomar, a town in the Santarem district of Portugal.

The imminent Damsel movie is about a dutiful princess who agrees to marry a handsome prince only to find out later that it was all a trap. The royal family recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt.

The damsel learns that she is not going to be a princess after all. She is then thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, relying solely on her own wit and will to survive after realizing that no one is coming to save her but herself. Here is the official synopsis for Netflix’s Damsel:

“It’s a taut contained thriller about a Princess that thinks she is marrying a prince only to be thrown into a pit where she is being sacrificed to a dragon. Brown plays Elodie, who’s anxiously awaiting her wedding to Prince Henry and feeling pressure from her Father, who needs the money her marriage will bring, to be a good, obedient wife. After marrying Henry, Elodie realizes she’s been tricked into becoming a sacrificial offering for a cruel dragon who intends to eat her. Elodie must fight her way out of the dragon’s lair and eventually saves herself by slaying the Dragon.”
