Chris Evans recently talked about his possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, claiming that he would be open to returning as Steve Rogers/Captain America. However, he also stated that he has no plans of doing anything like that in the near future. The last time we saw the hero was in Avengers: Endgame, and that was when he decided to hang his shield up for good.
During an interview with GQ that took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Evans was asked if he plans on rejoining the MCU. To this, he said, "Yeah, maybe. I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And, like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab, or if it didn’t live up to expectations, or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon."
Chris Evans made his debut as the superhero in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger as Steve Rogers/Captain America. The very next year, the actor reprised his role in Marvel’s The Avengers. Throughout the 2010s, Chris Evans made an appearance 12 times as The Star Spangled Man before leaving the franchise after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
What has Chris Evans been up to since Avengers: Endgame?
Since departing from the franchise, Chris Evans has appeared in the 2019 murder mystery movie Knives Out, the 2022 action-thriller movie The Gray Man, and the 2023 romantic action-adventure comedy movie Ghosted with his Knives Out co-star Ana de Armas. The American actor has also voiced Buzz Lightyear in the Disney/Pixar movie Lightyear, which explained the entire origin story of the Space Ranger.
On top of this, Evans also made some epic cameos in the 2021 movies Don’t Look Up and Free Guy. Some of his upcoming projects consist of the Christmas action movie Red One with Dwayne Johnson as well as the Netflix crime drama movie Pain Hustlers with the famous Emily Blunt. Although we do miss the superhero in the Marvel movies, he has been doing an amazing job expanding into other genres and adapting different types of roles.

Although Evans’ return to the MCU remains unknown, Captain America lives through the character Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. Wilson first showed up as Falcon in the MCU before taking over the title of Captain America at the end of the 2021 limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is set to headline Captain America: Brave New World, featuring Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as Sabra, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader. Let’s see how well the actor tackles the role once the movie releases!
Brave New World is a part of Phase 5 of the MCU and is set to release in theatres on July 26, 2024.
