Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Captain America: Brave New World in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Though his character remains a mystery, rumors have it that the Breaking Bad star will play George Washington “G.W.” Bridge, a member of a mercenary group called the Wild Pack, later known as the Six Pack, led by Cable. However, though the film’s official teaser gives a first look at Esposito’s part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, the actor claims that “no one has guessed correctly” his role yet.

As shared by X user @ResonantJustice, during a panel at the Fanboy Expo Knoxville over the weekend, Esposito talked about his character in Captain America: Brave New World. However, the Star Wars: The Mandalorian star didn’t reveal his role’s name yet but described him as a “badass” instead and how it became a fascinating art for him to develop his mysterious character in line with the character’s inception.

“I had an incredible time shooting it,” he said. “I'm not telling you who I'm playing...people are trying to guess, and no one has guessed correctly yet.”

Ever since the news broke that Esposito would be part of Captain America 4, there have been strong assumptions that he will be seen as G.W. Bridge. But though he seems to debunk the claims, insider My Time to Shine Hello stressed that his character would be called “Bridge,” and the people they talked to on the movie set during reshoots confirmed this name. They also revealed they had seen “visual evidence” that left two possibilities.

“Either he’s playing G.W. Bridge and missed my tweet, or ‘Bridge’ was just a codename,” they continued.

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Seems to Hint Giancarlo Esposito Will Play G.W. Bridge in Captain America: Brave New World

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld seems to hint that Esposito will play G.W. Bridge in Brave New World after he shared a screenshot of the actor and captioned it “cool” on X following the trailer’s release last week. Though there’s no way that it’s a confirmation of the 66-year-old’s role, it leads to speculations that he will indeed be seen as G.W. Bridge after Liefeld helped co-create the character with Fabian Nicieza in the 1991 Marvel Comics X-Force #1.

G.W. Bridge was part of the Six Pack alongside Domino, Deadpool, Grizzly, and other Marvel mercenaries. He also became a high-ranking major in S.H.I.E.L.D. but was later fired by Tony Stark after failing to take down Frank Castle’s Punisher and the unconventional method he used to try and bring him in. After being killed by Microchip in the comics, he returned alive and well as a member of the secret group J.A.N.U.S in Frank Tieri, Kyle Hotz, and Angel Unzueta’s 2020 Ravencroft comic series.

With G.W. Bridge’s connection to Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the CIA Director played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Falcon & The Winter Soldier, it will be no surprise if Esposito plays this role. Val is expected to appear in Brave New World, which may set the stage for another upcoming MCU movie, Thunderbolts*. That said, she may have hired G.W. Bridge after becoming a mercenary for hire following his stint in S.H.I.E.L.D. It is also possible that The Leader, the super genius played by Tim Blake Nelson, who may be the main antagonist of Captain America 4, will employ him.
